Studio question for everyone

What's the most common problem you face in the studio when making beats / producing music?

I think the biggest thing for me is getting frustrated and closing down shop and not saving what I did. Probably lost dozens of tracks because of that.

People that dont know what they are talking about, telling me what I should be doing.

If they know what they are talking about, I like getting ideas from them, but if they dont have a fucking clue, then they should just fuck off.

Not saving things that I don't like at the particular moment.. Then thinking back about how dope a certain aspect or part actually was. Also being a perfectionist kills my flow. It's hard for me to ever consider anything 100% done unless the artist is there and just wants it to be a go.

Or... the never ending search for "the perfect sound."

Used to be where to start. People would just say the drum beat go from there but I just can't write like that makes me feel locked in and not free to move where ever my head space is. But this is changin to every day I use mashine studio.

Lately for me it has been computer problems. Ever since I updated to Yosemite I have had issues with midi devices and usb devices like my Maschine Studio. Some plugins stopped working and I constantly have to restart or even a hard shut down. Work flow KILLER!

Man I agree with that one when I had my old rig. it was so frustrating to be in the zone the computer decides to abruptly kick you square in the face. But no more of that the new dedicated DAW has been flawless.

It's funny to think about it, but sometimes just all the options we have available to us, like a workstation full of drum samples CDs, and software synths with gigs and gigs of preset sounds etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is, sometimes all the options we have now for making music can sometimes get in the way of actually making music. Just my 2 cents. Peace

For me its knowing when the beat is complete, as in have I enough instruments, is the beat full enough.

Juggling beatmaking with full time jobland, my wife and child (got an 11 year old and a baby due in about a week).

I've got a project on the go with a couple local lads, plus working on my next beat tape and that's been going while I've done a load of DIY (baby's nursery was my studio - I've moved into a brand new attic room that had no floor) and decorating... Been a manic few months!

So yeah. Time.

I'd say for me, it's over thinking the beat by making it too complex. Sometimes I use way to many sounds...My tracks are currently on a diet right now though.

Creating a super dope sounding loop that I get stuck on. That's the biggest hurdle for me and also not arranging a song after I have all the parts

thats where i used to get stuck then i stared just taking things away and breaking up my drums. also got the Maschine and being able to bang on the pads to a synth loop helped alot.
