As mentioned it all depends on what you are putting in. Also it comes down to knowing levels, eq, and the ability to determine the correct levels for a person's vocals. I have done recordings on a shitty laptop and a walmart hand held microphone. Didn't have an interface either but you know why... -

Go with the interface. You will need a way to record your material. You can always add the mixer later. No since in having a nice ass mixer and a fucked up interface UNLESS you get one of those firewire mixers that act as audio interface/mixer I believe.(never really used them to go fully into... -

Where are the MPC 500 users???
Its a PGM make for the mpc1000. Its easier to load up a bunch of samples that way. Especially when u working wit like 10 or more samples. Bluebox allows u to load them to the pads and save it as a .pgm file. Very helpful. I use it all the time myself.(i use the mpc1k)... -
