E-MU 1820 / Turntables

I just bought an E-MU 1820 sound card with a phono input for turntables. I tried to hook my turntables up through the mixer (mixer output to E-MU phono input) but all I got was noise through my monitors. When I directly hooked up one of my technics 1200MK II the sound was perfect.
Does the problem lay with my mixer? (old jbsystems mixer)
Anyone know how I can hook up both my Technics using the E-MU 1820 soundcard so I can record what I'm mixing?
