Gating/Gating Vocals

hows it going, i am newish to mixing down, i can mix down sweet just exploring some new shit... well i am getting a bit of small noise in my recordings and have heard many times about gating music, is it possible to gate vocals as so not much small noises come through into the recording? i am using cool edit 2.0 so if anyone could help me in cool edit much appreciated...

it should be under some type of dynamic effect. i know cep and audition have a dynamics effect. does everything from compress/limit/expand/gate...
should be some presets in it. In cep and audition theres two labled noise gate @ 10 db and noise gate @ 20 db. mess around with them and see how it sets the shit up, try different presets to so you get a feel for how it all works. takes some time if you are new at it, but very useful to learn.

yea cheers i found that last night and i just chaged the points in the graph so it was about a 50db sound gate or so i think... thanks for your help ill keep messing around and then i might post summing in resources once i get it down pat on gating vocals....
