Multi-Tracking

Can someone help me out?

I'm trying to do some multi-tracking on my PC for an intro to a mixtape that i'm recording. I want to record an instrumental then record some scratches over it.

I'm doing this in acid. I recorded the instrumental into it, no problem. Then when i recorded some scratches into it, it was recording the instrumental over it too. Get me? I wanted the scratches on their own track so i could mess with the position of them. And i did that but the instrumental is on the new track too.

So now I've got, 2 tracks. One with the instrumental on it, and the second with the instrumental and scratches on it

I've currently got my tt's plugged into the mixer, and got a session/computer rec running from the mixer into the "in" on my soundcard. The "out" on my soundcard is plugged into the "session" on my mixer.

Is there anyway i can mute the instrumental, and hear through my headphones, then still record the scratches on their own?

Would cool edit be more suitable for this?

whut i usually do when i record from acid is i tern the speakers off so that its only coming thru my heaphones then i record like that... but thats for vocals... u can use a program called goldwave to record signals coming from your console.. and use the mixdown feature to mix the scratches with the track... u can also decide to record from the line in feature right on top of the instrumental... http://goldwave.com

you have to change the settings from the inputs of your soundcard.
it will probably be set on "what you here" so it records everything you hear and you have to set it to "line in" or "aux" so it just records what you want.
I don't know if your soundcard has a mixer of it's own or you just have to change it in the mixer from windows.
I had the same problem and it took me 2 months to find the problem

It's fine now i got the problem sorted.

Basically what was happening was that, I had sound going from my mixer going into the "in" on my soundcard. Then I had the "out" on my soundcard going into another "in" on my mixer.

Then had a master output going to my hifi. So i had a bit a loop going on, i should have figured that out because when i messed with the settings on the PC mixer I'd sometimes get some feedback.

Cheers for the help

dj delay there is always a little trick that can be done when stuff like that happens called phase inversion if you run the instro and the traCK QWITH THE INSTRO AND SCRATCH BOTH THROUGH THE SAME BUS WITH THE INSTRO AND SCRACH TRACK* phase inverted you will end up with just the scratch if you mixdown your bus. some common geekery which is very useful good for getting acapellas from tracks if you have the original and the instrumental
