Ok check it!

I have an M-Audio Axiom 25 keyboard midi controller as my studio center piece. I'm a software man so I use ableton live 7 rewired with Reason 4.0. Now this set works for me. Axiom is connected to my computer by way of usb.

Now......I've had an MPC 2k for years. I actually stop'd using it in 2001...(yes..that long). I have my manual so I can brush back up on my MPC skills.

Here's my dilema: I want to add the MPC2k to my set up as a second controller so to speak. I will be using it mainly for triggering drums in ableton so I can use note repeat. I don't have a clue as to how to connect the midi cables or what I need to do within the mpc to get everything to work.

this is an S.O.S.....HELP a brother out our point me in the right direction.

Buy a midi interface...connect a midi cable from the MPC's out into the in of the midi interface and u should be ready to go..U will be able to switch between midi channels in the mpc screen....

Actually now that i think of it i'm not sitting in front of mines ,but the Axiom might have a midi In and out...if so that can be your interface

it does....I think the midi out of the axiom is disabled with you use the usb cable. I have a fast lane motu midi interface...tried it...got nothing. I tried going out of the axiom to the mpc and out of the mpc back into the axiom and still nothing. I may not be setting up the mpc right or something. It's been so long since I've used the mpc. I forgot what I need to do in the MPC to set it up.

Appreciate you trying to help!

midi out on axiom to midi in on the mpc ... midi in on the mpc to interface

or

midi out on mpc to midi in on axiom .... midi out in axiom to interface

basically the two should be plugged into each other then into a interface as a straight line not a loop... at least thats how i have mine... so i can either tap the pads or hit the keys and play the same sounds...

I've been connecting midi cables for years....lol....I basically know the drill. I think the problem I'm having is on the midi interface and mpc side of things. My software is not recognizing my fastlane motu interface by name for some reason and I don't think I have my settings in the midi/sync settion of the mpc right or something...it's been so many years since I've messed with this thing...I use to use it with Reason way way back....I basically can't get it to work with anything on the midi side. If I go straight from the MPC to reason....nothing....if I go straight from the mpc to albleton live nothing. I've tested all the midi cables and midi data goes thru. It's either my midi interface, MPC settings or both. Appreciate you trying to help big homie!

Yo..I appreciate everybody trying to help me with this. I knew I'd figure it out sooner or later. It was one of the two things that I thought it was. I've had my MPC2k since they first drop'd....amazingly a lot of it's features came back to me without having to break open the manual. This after not power it on since '02 or '03. I found out for one that a dedicated midi controllers doesn't receive or send out mmc or mtc so it can't control the mpc.

My problem ended up being my midi interface. The drivers I initially installed didn't work on xp even though they were suppose to. I had go to Motu's site become a member and download the drivers that actually work. Once I installed the drivers and then connected my MOTU windows found the new hardware and then installed everything correctly.

So for anybody that runs into this problem in the future you have to be sure that your interface is recognized by your computer by name and it must exhibit it's ports. If not things won't work and you'll lose a lot of sleep...God knows I have!
