My HD is about full, when I say about I mean REEALLY full!
So I went and bought a 500 external gig, transfered the D drive contents to it first(like a dumbass), that went fine but when I tried the C drive I got all sorts of error messages...
The bad part is tho after defragging yesterday when I went to start PT (the new drive was plugged in but I hadnt transfered anything yet) it said somthing about the names of some files were too big change them or my plugins would be damaged..
Hopefully it will all be ok when I turn it on today...

Any ideas on this ??
Ever had the same problems?
Anything I should know?

Something similar just happen to me homie. U SHOULDN'T B SCREW'D! There are a few FREE progams out there that will allow u to retrieve all your info from damaged hard drives. I just went thru it 2 days ago! I set up my new pc to dual boot between vista and xp and transfer everything I want to my external 250g western digital hard drive. I got my computer to dual boot but then my external hard drive would not show up on either xp or vista. U KNOW I FREAKIN LOST MY MIND! Anyway, what had happen was something wrote over some of the sectors on my external hard drive. I SHOULD HAVE UNPLUG'D IT DURING THE PROCESS OF GETTING MY COMPUTER TO DUAL BOOT. I shut it down but didn't unplug it. Every music program, every sound etc was on my external hard drive so that once I got my new pc str8 I could dump all my shhh on it.

What I would have done if I were u is to just go into my hard drive and drag my programs folder to the external hard drive. It's usually the programs that u want to save. I would not have tried to copy the entire internal hard drive. Just get what u use off of it and don't worry about the rest.

What kind of external hard drive did u buy?

Hit me up if your computer is still not doing what u want it to do and I'll let u know how to retrieve the info. off of your hard drive. AND WHAT EVER U DO....DON'T REFORMAT EITHER HARD DRIVE...INTERNAL OR EXTERANL. If u do that everything is gone for good! Everything u have if u didn't do that can be retrieved homie....holla back. This is how identy theft catz get ya shit off your thrown away or given away old pc's!

The c drive is normally the master drive that windows is installed onto. It has bootstrap code and other complicated shit like that. It would have been best to partition the new drive into 2, then copy the c drive to the new c drive and the d drive to the new d drive. If you copied the stuff onto the new drive and not straight moved it then nothing should be wrong, but if files have been changed on your original c drive then there could be trouble.

Yeah thats what I had done was drag and drop all the folders on my D drive first...
Prolly shoulda done C first.Il see what happens when I get to the crib.

The D drive is usually a back up drive for the c drive. Sometimes it will have the exact same things that u have on the C drive. Unless u actually put things on the D drive there is no need to copy things from it to your external hard drive. What it may have done is overwritte things that u took off your c drive with partial items. Sometimes windows will put part of a file on the c drive and other information dealing with the same file on the d drive. Either way if u did't reformat your drives u can retrieve your files.

Yeah reformat the new drive and start again, copy all of c drive to the new drive, then swap drives over, you may have to adjust the bios settings at boot up, so it can recognise the new drive as the master drive. Then it should boot up fine, then you can do what you like with the c drive, and the d drive. Do not delete anything from the original c drive until the newly installed drive works fine!!!!
