Ok..I just made the switch from Mac's bootcamp to run windows on my MacBook to Parallels Desktop 4.0. Just set everything up yesterday. Installing all my programs todays(hopefully for the last time on this damn computer).

Anyway I need to get more fluent on the Mac Os, that's the reason I did it. Is anybody using Parallels and if so what are your pro and cons. I still have the ability to use Bootcamp but being able to go back and forth and between windows & Mac Os seems more beneficial in the long run.

Any and all comments (if you have this kind of set up) is welcomed.

parallels blows. running both OS's eats up all your damn memory, especially with programs like DAW's open and working..

^^^ great for software you wouldnt be running on your mac... I've been running bootcamp eversince i have the mac, i dont mind rebooting on the mac as its that goes really fast. I have productions data on an ext. disk, goes really wel streaming from itl.

Install VMware, then you can set it up to load your bootcamp partition as a virtual machine without restarting. Lets you use simple applications in windows under VMware, and if you need more power then just reboot into bootcamp.

To fully access your windows partition from OS X, install this http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/
and this http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/
And to access your mac partition from XP running on bootcamp, install MacDrive.

And if you install Codeweaver's Crossover, it'll let you run a lot of basic windows programs in emulation without even needing to install windows.

But honestly I don't do this anymore, got everything I need now running on OS X.

yeah....parallels is nothing like I it reads it would be. I got rid of it after a day. Definitely can't run any music apps this way. The idea is good but the way it actually works is not! Seems like there's no good alt other than bootcamp.

I'm say "goodbye" to pirated software. I'm going to run all my music apps on the Mac side and since my DJ software only works well on windows xp I'll only use bootcamp for that. It's pass time that I get use to working the majority of the time with the Mac Os.

Now I know what a recovering "crackhead must feel", doing without pirated software is MURDER! lol

haha - It's hard. I miss the Waves platinum plugins in logic now (they ain't been cracked for the mac)
And buying them ain't an option either - £1400?! Fuck that - its the same price as my computer!

The default plugins in Logic are dope though.

Yep! I actually have more than enough toys to play with. There are still some serious fire power out there cracked for the mac os. Waves Mercury Bundle is what I'll miss the most but I'll get along without it....I HOPE!

I just installed virus barrier x5 on my mac book. I heard Apple is no longer standing by it's statement that there computers are unable to catch a virus. Now they're saying that if you happen to get a virus on your Mac it's extremely hard to get rid of it. Anyway, I'll be going thru with drawl for a minute not having all my xp vst and vsti cracks but I'll rise above....lmao

lol yeah I heard someone predict this about 8 or 9 years ago right when apples started becoming more popular.

The sad fact is that the less popular microsoft gets (it's only going to get less and less popular unless they make drastic changes to their business model) the more "hackers/crackers/virus programmers" are going to get going on the Apple operating system. :p funny how it works.
