Portamento on the Keys

Was wondering how portamento's are mimicked on keyboards? I've tried using the pitch wheel on different keys but that seems extremely hard. I'm trying to get that early 90s west coast sound, but I can't get the technique. Thanks in advance!

Those wondering, portamento is just a long slide of a voice or instrument.

Each synth or sampler has a portamento option that you can click on.
In FL Studio sample channel there one in the MISC tab.

yeah, and it depends on the plugin/software/hardware unit how you can use portamento. For example, sometimes portamento or glide occurs on any note played, sometimes it only glides if you press a key while another is held down... and sometimes you can tell the plugin/software/hardware how you want it done

so peep the documentation for your equipment. and try pressing notes while other notes are held etc to see if they glide then.

Its a matter of finding how your software/ plugin does portamento then automating it. On reason its pretty simple. Personally I dont like how it sounds but then I hardly know what it even is. I thought it just pitch bends the notes. Never really liked the sound of it.
