If you were me would you get sonar 4 producers edition or pro tools m-powerd. I want pro tools cause i would be compatible with all the big studio's and i would know the industy standard, but the people i just hooked up with use sonar, and i not sure if the 2 work toghether.

1st off its all about what your comfortable with.. But on the technical side yes Sonar is compatible with Protools. If you save the file as a Omf file with broadcast waves it will open in protools ( only with sonar 3 and up) what ever effects ( im guessing envelopes also) you put in it tho won't carry over to protools.. So you can raw record it in sonar then open in protools and mix, Add effects, etc....

I say this Its Good to know and learn protools cause it is the standard , but for your situation I would go with Sonar 4, its Just as powerful as protools if not more and you'll be able to do things in it that will transfer over to the other studio your usin and vice versa

Make sure you save ur file as a cwb with the audio files in it

( Note I have never Opened sonar File in protools but this is info which was given to me by a few different people. Any of the above that is incorrect some 1 with more knowledge please correct)

Sonar 4 does alot more and works alot better than that cheap version of protools LE

unless you have enough for a hd3 system go with sonar.... if you have $10k + spare pro tools is a bread winner in a pro studio just like neuman mics urei compressors api eq's neve pre's etc.

sonar 4 rocks on the midi side of things if you want less midi sequencing more wave editing power go with nuendo (i use sonar and at the moment i can't see any reason why i would ever change)
