Recording Levels

I'm doing some recording now on my Zoom Digital recorder. I just finished recording my beat and vocals on two seperate tracks. Now it's time for a mixdown. MY question is this....do you like to keep your beat at a higher volume than or vocals or visaversa? Or do you liketo keep them at the same master level? I don't want my beats to drowned out my vocals or the other way around......I record both of them at the same levels to start with. If someone with some know how could help meout I'd appreciate this.

well, i think everyone has a different technique. What i try to do is get the levels above the beat "somewhat." Not too much, not too little, just listen to it. It depends on how you recorded it. You want to get a good level set for the vocals though, have them sound like your alive in the song, you know. Hope that made sense, Im still learning myself but the other cats on hear that are more keened to that will be able to help if i didn't, hopefully.

I apreciate it either way, it mostly depends on the song... think of your target audience for each song, and mix accordingly. If the beat is faster, like a club/dance hit type recording, play the vocals down, if it's something more hardcore like f*** the world, bring the vocals above, at least that's what me and mines do.

It all comes down to what you like though, it's your recording

My Advice To You Is To Get A Stord Bought Cd And Listed To How A Song Is Mixed And Then Try To Duplicate What You Hear.
