Recording vocals

I was just looking for some tips for recording raps:

I use cep and usually record a main track and 2 tracks with addlips that are panned for achieving some kind of a stereo effect and make it sound more vivid. I t have neither a compressor nor a delay effect (just a mic with plopp killer and mic preamp) and haven´t figured out how to get good results with software yet. (Fortunately I know some guy with all kind of nice hardware equipment who is doing that for almost free)

For recording I just setup a 1 bar loop of my beat for the mc to record, too. Then I leave that recorded stuff for a while and start putting the beat around it, addingmore stuff like breaks, variations etc.

So how do you all do it? Sometimes adding whispers can sound quite nice. Just depends on the feelings you want the rap to evoke.
So who wants to share some infos on this topic?

Hey, I've been experimenting myself. I've been using Cubase Sx, and I have been experimenting trying to get that "perfect" sound out of this thing. I pretty much go throug the same process as you, with letting the mc record to a small looped beat, and build around it.

I am still struggling in getting everthing to play nice, instruments with vocals, and all and make it really sheen and lay just right with the beat. Plus I had a cheapo mic, that has just gotten replaced with a cardoid (Peavy PVM 22). I've been using Waves plugins (compression, reverb, etc.).
