I was wondering if anyone else experiences it and is it the norm?

Try turning down the source volume from the turntable, then turning up the input sound level on your sound card, or vice versa. Usually, you can turn down that humming (probably a grounding issue, check that too) and boost the input levels, and not even hear the hum anymore.

Does the turntable have a ground link? I'm no DJ Cucumber Slice or Qbert or anything, but I thought the table had a ground on it....

Also, try lowering the input level on the soundcard and raising the output level, maybe that'll work? Make sure your left channels and right channels are matching up too...

ah fuck it, I'm just guessing.

also depends on your preamp, there are shitty ones that always give off a buzzing noise. I went home over break and didn't bring my mixer, so i went out and bought a 50 dollar preamp and even with a good soundcard, it still sounds like shit, so maybe it is your preamp
