SP505 - slowing samples = choppy?

Hey, recently I've been messing with a Boss SP-505 and I noticed that if I sample something that is at a higher BPM and then try to slow it down to match my desired tempo the sample gets real choppy. Am I not sampling right or is my equipment just not good enough?

I think when you try to match the tempo it actually changes Tempo and Pitch, instead of just pitch.
Thats all I can think of, and I'm pretty sure its the problem.
