using software gate fx, can you really take the hiss out without taking away from the vocal quality. I only notice that the hiss goes away between vocals, but remain with the vocals when I hear them, I want the hiss gone completly. Any advice except clearing anything that's making extra noise out of the room. I use acid or cooledit.

tern off the speakers when u record... and use a filter preset available in cool edit... acid also has filters available that are relatively easy to figure out... however i found the best software for filtering perposes is goldwave 4.0 and its a compact program at that but devastatingly powerful... http://goldwave.com ity comes with its own presets or u can choose ti fine tune ur files directly... blah blah blah... or u can perchase soundforge made by the same people as acid... and use that as ur audio editor...
