Thoughts Regarding Our 'Lovely' Music Biz + haloDim Efforts

As ya'll know, mercury and I have been trying to breakthrough with our project: haloDim.

After a long period of hard work (8-10 months), we've got the product ready; 18 tracks + 18 poems (one for each track, in form of a dialogue between merc and myself). we've made a list of possible labels, and decided to send the cd to Day By Day.

2 weeks ago, we got an email from the A&R, telling us how much he loves the album and so on. here's the summary of the first reply: "I listened to a part of the album, and I THINK
IT's CRAZY! You had me typing out lyircs man!!! this album just has that dope nyc 1997 underground feel. but i aint saying it's dated cause it's like timeless. like company flow's album".

and here's the final reply we got yesterday: "We sat down and went through material that we received, and although I really liked your album, the others weren't feeling it like that. That's on a P&D or picking it up as a label tip. However, if you are interested in straight distro, I can see what's up with that".

straight distro is not bad, but it's WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for us. if we had crazy $$$, we'd prolly go for it. but we don't have that kind of money.

thus, we're moving on; the next label shall be def jux and after that (probably) mush.

so, as you see, this industry(pretty much) sucks. i can understand them though - if they are not sure about our chances to sell a certain amount of copies, it wouldn't be wise of them to agree and sign us.

the BIG problem is that nowadays business comes first. it should be vice versa - music MUST always come first. eventually, at least for us, it's all about the music and not the money. let's see what happens next. we'll keep ya'll up to date!
thank you for the massive support :thumb:

Well it sucks that they didn't like it, but 'everything happens for a reason'! At least you're trying. And the more you try, the better your chances are. (Instead of waiting for them to come to you of course).

Keep us updated in this thread.

Wings u and Merc are mad talented. I'm glad yall getting out there like that. Like you were saying the anr was feeling it on a personal level but on abuisness level they couldn't sign you. If you look @ what's going on nowadays most labels are signing productioncompanys and sub labels rather then signing direct artists. Less liability for them and if the artist do good they usualy sign the artists to the main label and drop the sub label. If you realy tryna get signed u have to show the labels that you can sell units by selling your cd yallselves. Or see about that ditribution deal. P.s. How can I get a copy. I heard something of Mercs b4 (rappin) all I can say is FIYAAAA!!!!

thanks for the support ya'll :)

and yo fantom - you're 100% right; most labels are signing production companies and sub labels rather then signing direct artists.

we're sending the CD to some more labels, hopefully we'll get a positive answer from at least one of them.

Wings
