What is Hz and kHz

I see these all the time but i'm not really sure what the kHz is. I never see it on my EQ's. Could anyone explain how to read this.

Hz = hertz - the way frequencies are measured. The higher the hz, the higher the frequency, and the higher the pitch. Simple.

Khz = kilohertz - So for example, instead of saying 5000hz you would simple put 5khz. Just like a kilogram is a thousand grams.

EQ is a strange thing. As long as I have been reading about, I still don't completely understand it. I have to say my mixing has improved considerably though.
