Word, thanks for the props bro.
The instrument sounds for both of those beats come from different versions of the Fluid Soundfont (checkout hamersound to download it). I like that soundfont because the sounds are more realistic than most. With that said, I read your intro message, and I agree that you should use your own instruments as much as possible. No soundfont can ever beat the sound of the real deal (of course that's a matter of preference, but I think many people would agree). You can compliment your sounds by using synths, but take it one step at a time - use your own stuff first. Once you're comfortable, start expanding into new sounds. That would be my advice.
