A beat for an intense/emotional song about mental health...

The use of chinas/splashes/rides is great. Not sounds you hear in typical hip-hop beats. That clipping kick has sooo much character/meat/phatness...but maybe not for this tune? For me a boomy kick that matches the verbed out snare would go much further in encapsulating the rock vibe of this...

Belly of the Beast - I need a critic plz

Preface: I'm not a fan, at all, of trap.... ...That being said the kick doesn't fit to me. An 808/909 or something a bit more analog sounding would fit nicer with the trap style drums. Otherwise, the beat itself is great. Serves the song. Strings sound great. I hear some chimey piano pieces...

    Uplift Prod. By WaLi_RaW_BeatZ

I can hear Nas spitting some serious knowledge on this. Loving the percussion elements and the way you chopped that guitar bend. My, very knit-pick, critiques are: Snare is a bit too loud and obtrusive for my liking. That crisp, white noise snare sounds dope, but maybe a more laid back rim...

    Chill Hip-Hop Beat

Thanks for the feedback @Kane the MOD. Admittedly, drums are typically my weak point. I'll usually program a simple groove to write to, but then get stuck on how to liven them up. Additionally, I'm very wary of them either being TOO loud or out of place compared to the other elements in the song.

    Cold Messing Around

I absolutely love Maschine! My go to bass patch is "Trees" which is a stock preset in Massive. Great for subs.

    Piano + Heavy Metal Guitar??!!

Hey man, "if you're not over-doing it, you're not doing it right!" lol Listened to a couple of your other beats and really like your rock+boom bap style. Keep the great tunes coming!

    Somebody Told Me

Nice! How you like Cubase? I used it religiously years ago, but now I'm just Maschine+Logic Pro Great that your stretching yourself and experimenting with new sounds. I find it's easy to fall into a cycle of making the same types of beats repeatedly because the sound selection palette never...

    Piano + Heavy Metal Guitar??!!

To @Kane the MOD point, there is a bit too much dist/saturation on the drums. As beefy as the kick is, dialling back the processing good give it some more depth and punchy. Distortion at a point ultimately flattens the sound. T he snare sounds great though. Especially the little snare roll in...

    Become the media

The horn/brass lead bit feels a bit flat. Some reverb or automation might bring it to life a bit more. I feel like it just sits tooo much on top rather than blending and weaving in nicely with the other sounds. Drums sound dope, but a bit to straight ahead. There's definitely some swing in...

Beware of any man who keeps a Pig Farm!

LOOOOVVVEEE that old Tin Pan Alley sound! The choppy/gated bit is a crazy vibe. The pig monologue and visual is....out there, but somehow works lol. I like how you took a sample, flipped it, and then glitched it out. Really extends the "shelf life" of a sequence and keeps it evolving.

Jesus Type Beat "A Haunting 2" (Prod. Skar In Jesus)

Great work developing mood and atmosphere. Asymmetric glitch-hop isn't quite my cup of tea, but it works here. Not sure if it was intentional, but it sounds like you're moving between major and minor scales. It's unsettling, and while it matches the overall tone, doesn't give the ear a home...

    Somebody Told Me

@2GooD Productions, man you never miss. Love the flutes/woodwinds. I criminally underrated sound choice in hip-hop. I'm getting big time Pete Rock vibes from the drums. Super cool, intricate, and playful change ups and variations in there. That chorus is incredibly inventive and unique...

Help me brand my go to style... alternative hip-hop? Rap rock? Gangsta rap of the future?

Love the space and atmosphere. Definitely has that "rock band recorded in a unique space" vibe. The song structure itself is very cool. I get old school Metallica vibes with quieter and louder sections. As for branding... "Progressive North American Grime Rap"

    Cold Messing Around

Love the drums on this. Is the bass synthetic or an up-right sample? The bassline is super dope, but something about the sound of it doesn't jive with me personally. I like how sparingly you used the funky little guitar chops. My only criticism would be that maybe there are too many...

    Chill Hip-Hop Beat

Hey All, Between work and travel, I haven't had much time for music. Carved out the day for myself today, and came up with a short, but sweet, chill beat. Started with a simple piano melody in Logic Pro. Harmonized with some chord extensions in the left hand. Layered sounds and fleshed out...

    MPC Boom Bap Beat

Thanks @OGBama Not opposed to samples, but I enjoy writing music and then "flipping" my own stuff. I also went through a phase where I almost exclusively sampled.

    MPC Boom Bap Beat

Thanks @JustIn Flow By out of the box do you mean it sounds a bit too "stock"? There are actually no samples on this beat. I essentially write basic chord progressions and instrumentation in Logic, then sample and chop in the MPC 1000

    MPC Boom Bap Beat

Thanks InsideOutBeats, I don't have proper speakers, so everything is mixed in headphones. Definitely agree with you on the drums. I tend to second guess how hard they hit and dial back. Sometimes I think the snare, especially, slaps too hard - so I soften then up and bring them down in the...

Who here is using NI Maschine?

I've been using Maschine since December 2011 (MK1). I made a ton of great beats on it and became quite the whiz using it entirely hands on. Then the mandatory updates... ...Since 2.0 the MK1 was essentially "dead." No more updates and no access to 2.0 with the MK1 hardware. I was pretty upset...
