    why i like sampling(a composer's view)

Sampling to me is dope on three levels. One is the mystique of taking a pre-existing piece of music and flipping to sound potentially tighter than the original. "Damn! You made that sound like that?!" Another is based on the theory that musical phrasing is finite, only a certain amount of notes...

    quasimoto...WTF?!?!

For Class, the Madlib Blue Note album or the JayLIb album would probably suit your tastes better. Madlib as an MC is really never good, but the Quas stuff is even worse. Check for instrumental versions of Madlib albums you won't be disappointed. Do you have any of the early Calhoun albums...

    What The Hell????!!!!

I don't know of anyone that listens to Slum V for lyrics, it's all about JayDee's production. Which is insanely dope. Similarly, JayDee and Madlib's Champion sound is all about production and not two producers rappin. You got two dope trades though.

    Good News, Bad News

I got some good news and some bad from my school. As you may or may not know, I teach Media Technology at a high school. The good news from the camp is that one of my students got an internship at a local recording studio, in fact it was the one that I interned at in High school. At this...

    Ali Shaheed Muhammed flowin'??????

I got the album, it is good. Not great, but good. The beats are real organic, a la Lucy pearl and D'Angelo. Ali flows, not like the old Q-Tip, but in a producer flow, he is better than Pete Rock or Diamond D. It is in heavy rotation for me right now.

I hate to say it, but why do people want it so easy!?

The fact that someone can easily sample a record, tape, cd, tv, or whatever, is the exact reason that hip hop pioneers created the unwritten tenet that “Thou shall only sample from the original source”. It added a small obstacle to sample creation. In theory it makes you have to sample more...

Paul C - Give The Drummer Some

That is probably the best read that has been posted since I have been here. Good in human interest, hip hop history, ans production contexts.

    Just Blaze Video!!

Apparently wednesdays MTV has hip hop night. I only watched last night because as I flipped thru I saw them interviewing Pimp C from UGK from prison. The show last night was a look into Houston which MTV called the "The new home for southern hip hop". They interviewed Mike Jones...

    Why do you produce?

I dj, dig, sample, produce, and listen to music to satisfy my soul. Ive listened to hip hop since the age of 9. Not kriss Kross, but PE, KRS one, Xclan. Powerful music, which instilled in me the desire to reach others as I was reached. I can play no instruments well, but I can create a...

    Words from the Genius

Lookin at that Words from the Genius avatar on the hompepage, it looks nothing like the album cover that I have for that record. What label and year is that release? Anyone? Mine has a corny wizard font and The Genius is sitting in a gold throne with a staff. By the way the album sucks. But...

2 1200's My wife purchased them 8 years ago when we were dating. She would slip $ money the register everyday where we worked. She saved enogh to buy 2 used twelves from a mutual friend that stockpiled equipment. Needless to say, I was surprised at the gift and the means of purchase. She...

I would love to try one of these

Nevermind, they are only midi controllers, no sequencing, and the faders are the sorry digital ones, not the classic clicking vestax faders. Sorry to waste your time. But I bet trance dj's are are going nuts.

I would love to try one of these

It is a sampling tone machine (rather than drums). The principle is that instead of contolling sound with pads or buttons, you fader up. It just like scratching, fader on sound on, fader off sound off. Only it has a sequencer to remember your composition. You can control samples, loops or...
