    Are certain rappers really killers?

Yeah. Not the best of times for me or the two blokes that ended up in hospital but in retrospect if I had my time over I wouldn’t have done anything differently. I was defending myself and my girlfriend from two blokes trying to mug us. If I hadn’t done what I did, myself or my girlfriend could...

    Are certain rappers really killers?

Murdering somebody ain’t nothing to be proud of. I can’t stand how rappers banging on about being killers. In the early days of NWA and Ice T etc it was a novelty. It was a reflection of life in those particular parts of society. Nowadays it’s a cliché (and pretty morally dubious to say the...

Is there something better then Recycle for chopping?

Is there a way in Soundforge to chop automatically and then fine tune the chops similar to the beat slicer in fruity? At the moment I'm simply highlighting a section of the sample and copying to another file and saving as a wav. Then I'm moving on to the next section of the sample and doing...

    FL Studio Newbie (Advice Needed)

Thanks loads for all the help guys. 5th Sequence - I thought it'd be a bit strange to not have piano roll on one of them but when i click piano roll in the demo, a message appears which says "this feature is not available in pro edition" (or words to that effect.) I was toying with the idea...

    FL Studio Newbie (Advice Needed)

I’ve been messing around with the Fruity Loops demo for the last couple of days and I’m digging it. Gonna get myself a copy but I’m not sure what edition I should be getting. I can’t seem to find any breakdown of the differences between the difference versions ie (XXL, producers edition, Fruity...

Sampling - Where to draw the line.

Really good point there mate. My MC and I have always attacked our projects the same way since day one. He comes up with a concept for the track then writes his rhymes to a basic drum loop that I’ve put together. Then once I get a feel for the lyrics and content of the song – I’ll put down the...

Sampling - Where to draw the line.

Interesting point. In that case, would you have any issues with sampling the score from Scarface even though Mobb Deep already used it? Cheers Daymo

Sampling - Where to draw the line.

Ok fair enough but then what do you make of RZA on CREAM? He's generally considered as one of the best producers in the industry and this is a classic Wu-Tang track. Would it have been even half as good without the Charmels sample? Cheers Daymo

Sampling - Where to draw the line.

I will sample any and every fuckin thing as long as it sounds dope. However, I will not sample something really well known (like a chart hit from the last 5 years) and I will not sample another hip hop producer (although I may use a vocal line from a hip hop track to cut up.) Where do you...

    sampling

You'll never completley remove the bg music from the vocals. However, a certain amount of EQing will get you close. Audacity has a noice removal feature which can also be used in conjunction with EQing but you'll never turn a full track into what is essentially an accapella. Cheers Daymo

    Sampling wav,mp3,cda?

Audacity is cool but has nowhere near the flexibility or functionality of Soundforge. If you just need something cheap and cheerful to slice up MP3's or WAV's, then Audacity will do the trick. If, however, you want more functionality and effects etc go for Soundforge. Download Audacity here...

    The legality of selling beats

This is a question to the more experienced of you out there that have sold beats to recording artists. What in terms of legality is your responsibility when selling beats? Are you obliged as the producer to have gained the relevant sample clearance or is that the responsibility of the...

Cool Edit eh? That sounds like what I'm looking for. Thanks a lot guys. Cheers Daymo

    Audacity

Yep - I've done a lot of subtractive EQing in soundforge but I can't seem to get the same effect. I'm presuming the Audacity feature is nothing more than a preset EQ but I can't seem to get the same thing when manually EQing. I just thought that since a freeware program has this...

    Audacity

No not for free - just any program that can do the same thing. Is there a PC based equivalent of Bias Peak? Cheers Daymo

    Audacity

In conjunction with Soundforge, I sometimes use a freeware sound editor called Audacity for editing samples as Audacity has a pretty handy feature called "Noise Removal". Basically you highlight a section of the sample that contains hiss/static/background noise etc and click "get noise" - you...
