    girl or music

I'm fortunate in that my wife not only doesn't mind the time I spend composing, she helps me out by writing lyrics. In fact, when we first started dating, we recorded a bunch of stuff just for fun. If she's a keeper, she'll respect your hobbies.

    Yamaha RS700 vs Mpc's

I've been sequencing on an RM1x (predecessor to RS7000) for four years. I just bought an MPC 1000 two weeks ago. While there are many differences, I'll sum it up for you: The MPC is all about live recording. I can record an entire song without ever having to stop playback. But when it comes...

lookin for a cheap or older module with decent sounds

Doesn't the mo'phatt have expansion slots? It shouldn't cost much to add a ROM card to it. Vintage keys is great. You might also wanna check the Proteus ROMs.

    question on production equipment

Yes. You can use a MIDI controller with the MPC. You can also use the MPC as a MIDI controller :) The MPC is great for live recordings. You can literally record an entire song without ever stopping the playback. This is what I love about it.

    Hip Hop software

Anybody ever use a sequencer called Vision? I remember back in the day, I used to use this great program on my Mac. I loved it because I could compose an entire song without having to stop recording (kinda like the MPC) and when I was finished composing all my sequences, I could trigger them...

    Loading a palette of samples

Just as a quick follow-up to my original post. I started doing it this way and it works great! Although, I discovered I can also use the Program screen to audition the samples. I just can't see the waveforms from this screen. I also started using CDXtract to convert my ESI-4000 sampled hits...

    Roland Fantom Drum Machine

Which Fantom do you own? What do you mean by "sound right"? There's a handful of cool multimedia samples on Roland's site.

    Problems...

Shouldn't the M.C. be monitoring the beat through headphones? Otherwise, you're going to pick up the beat in the background of your vocal recording.

quick mpc question about copyin drum tracks from bars to other bars

First you select the region to copy in the track, then you can copy by bar. It's on pages 25-28 of the user manual. Good luck!

    Loading a palette of samples

I just thought of this while I was creating two new programs on my MPC 1000 for the TR-808 samples. Instead of creating a bunch of programs with samples, it would be better to have a folder that contains just the sample files. Then I could load that folder at once, use the trim screen to...

where can i get some hard hitting lil jon sounds from?

Is that lead sound a preset on the Triton? I can get almost the exact same sound out of my Access Virus b with a little tweak of the 30 knobs :)

    Quality or Quantity

I can understand taking the five-beats-a-day approach because sometimes it's that fifth beat that is the winner. But after sequencing a ton of little tunes, when I finally find the one that I think has potential, that's when I stop making five a day and concentrate on the one until it's...

    mono vs stereo sampling

I'm interested to hear what the group has to say about sampling in mono vs stereo? Is there any rule of thumb? I would imagine sampling a drum hit in stereo is less important than say a synth.

Is there a way to get rid of the noise that ........

I used to have that problem also. I switched over to these surge protectors called Isolator and it's quieted everything down.

    Mpc 1000

Up until this week, I've used a Yamaha RM1x as my main sequencer. It has a very powerful sequencer, but no sampling ability. I have a digital piano that I use as my controller. I also have a MIDI patch bay that I plug all of my equipment into. This makes it a hell of a lot easier to route...

Saving a song across multiple equipment

Things were much easier when I only had an MC-303 :) I love having more equipment to work with now, but it gets overwhelming sometimes. Last night, I used approach #3 and it worked great. My process was: 1) Queue up preset on my ESI-4000, 2) Record MIDI track using MPC 1000, 3) Record the...

    Mpc 1000

The MPC has two sequencing modes: DRUM & MIDI. The difference between them is with DRUM mode, you're sequencing the pads which contain samples (WAV files) and with MIDI mode, you're sequencing from an external source (i.e. MIDI controller) to an external destination (i.e. sound module...

    mic pre amp question

I used an Art tube pre-amp with a SM-57 until I got my Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro with MIC pre-amps built-in. It's a decent sounding unit. I was quite happy with the results. Nice warm sound. Check out the review at http://emusician.com/ar/emusic_art_tube_mp/
