    Pirate bay back in court..

^^^ not too far from the truth. I also agree that older business models don't apply by today's standards. I am unbiased in the great debate of software piracy, but Formant024's logic is flawed. Since when has not being able to afford something become a prerequisite for stealing it? Downloading...

    Pirate bay back in court..

Napster didn't go away, they just commercialized it. I think Best Buy actually owns them now. Roughly a 100 million dollar deal. We are in a digital, but without debating the ethics of file sharing, I think it will always be around in some form or another. I think an end result will be...

Economic Stimulus package passed Senate today...

Historically, stimulus plans don't work. Ask Russia, Venezuela, Western Europe, or most recently Japan. Actually, when japan tried it, their deficit multiplied by 3. So now they were three times as more in debt and still nothing had changed. Even without a history lesson, it doesn't take a...

    XP VS VISTA for production

My personal opinion...Vista does what it does, but i wouldn't use it for production because all my software hasn't been ported yet. 8gb is not overkill, especially when using the kore2/komplete5 bundle. Kontact 3 will swallow 4gb pretty quickly when you begin layering sounds. If I was...

    Cubase 5

My upgrade should be arriving tomorrow morning, but i wont get a chance to play around with it until this weekend. i'll post what I think about it.

    Native Instruments Maschine

An MPC killer, I doubt it....from what I've seen from the videos it still cant touch an MPC. It only has two slice modes.....transient and 16ths for one. Second, I didn't see anything about pitch shift, time stretch, or bpm sync. Not that it doesn't have it, but it still looks like a tricked out...

    Cubase 5

Yeah, I seen that earlier today. It looks like a decent upgrade. I'm gonna drop the 200 bucks for it when its released. Batch export is here at last. Plus Nuendo style automation handling has been added. The voice pitch thingy looks like Melodyne. i'm curious to how it will perform in comparison.

    Native Instruments Maschine

peep the link http://www.native-instruments.com/newreleases/#/en/products/producer/maschine/videos/?content=101 I knew something similar would come sooner or later. It wont be replacing my MV 8000 but I like it's concept. It's definitely not an MPC killa either but I can see these becoming...

    Cubase 5

Here's a scan from next months Recording magazine. http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/4360/firstcubase5adij8.jpg An improved media bay and 64 bit support will be nice. I hope the beat designer feature is done more like Ableton does it and less like Sonar or Protools. other than that, I hope its...

    What about Cubase?

Their support does suck from what I've heard but I've never had to use it, nor have any of the bugs affected my work flow. I've been using Cubase since it was called VST 5. Opinions vary, but i disagree with the statement that other sequencers are miles ahead. In the sequencer war I think its...

    Need your input, Reason users

I'm not a hardcore Reason user but anything from the earlier Access Virus series of synths. Like the Virus KB if you can get a hold of one. I think it came out in 2000. Is that old enough? Someone said a Prophet 08 multisampled...I'd pay $200 for that one...most others I'd probably want to pay...

what's the better program cubase or reason 3?

Correct. Reason doesnt support VSTi's. Which isnt that bad actually. They say its a stability thing. In my opinion, the rewiring setup between Reason and Cubase is the best in the biz. These two were designed for each other, so to speak.

    assigning session to new soundcard

What version of cubase are you using? In ver 4 it askes you before the session loads if it cant find the interface from the previous session.

WTF? Once Again It Defies Logic

Bingo! That's because we got guns....my point was 1. statistics don't tell the full story and 2. in the absence of a gun, there's always something else. Where'd you get your stats? dream already hit the nail on the head though

WTF? Once Again It Defies Logic

10 per 100,000. I thought it would be worse than that. I'd actually say those are comparatively good odds considering the extreme differences in the laws. Give me the right to bear arms and those odds any day. If you take away all the weird deaths, like this one, it would probably be closer to...

    How Much Illmuzik is Worth!!!!

A good reference I guess but it looks like someones homemade math. I don't think you can seriously price a site by its traffic alone. I doubt the webmasters actually visit every site they post results to. ...besides that, it says its own site is worth $298,387.50.

Software that automaticly normalizes and centers

Wavelab 6 is what I use. Although its expensive it does what you need. The option is under tools-->>batch process. You basically pick the files you want to process and tell it what you want done to them. In your case, normalize then save to mono. Hit run and let it do its thing. Actually, you...

Pro Tools 8 Major Midi Improvements

I wouldn't go so far as to say pro tools has caught up yet but its definitely on its way. Midi wise, for what I need it for, it already does it, be it a little awkward. I like pro tools because it does audio extremely well, and arguably better than any other DAW. I'm gonna get PT8 and do my own...

    Crazy new stuff from....

I dont really need it on the aux tracks, so thats a plus. I'll have to do more research on it. What I meant was the Digi guy said it was coming, it was only sponsored by SW.

    Crazy new stuff from....

When I went to the Digidesign workshop sponsored by Sweetwater last April they said plugin delay compensation was coming to the LE and M-powered versions. Thats about the only thing that could possibly get me to use protools more than i do normally. Until that gets added, I'm sticking with Cubase 4.
