    Over The Ocean

That opening arpeggio is a great way to quickly establish the foundation while giving the listener something to latch onto. The way it moves to the background to allow other elements shine was very creative. From a musical perspective, there may be a bit TOO much movement. Even the pad synths...

    3 Beats from Today

Hard Times: Drums go hard on this! Perfect example that a simple drum groove that bangs can provide a phenomenal foundation for a beat. I like that you didn't over do it with the percussion when it came in. Great sample! Greater flip. I like that, while elements repeat, there is a clear A and B...

    Broken Promises

Love the intro! I'm not a trap fan myself, but the drums and 808s work with this. The changes and elements sprinkled throughout the beat are super cool and keep in interesting. Maybe one criticism is that some of the elements don't fit together with each other. I picked out the following...

    My first SP 404 beat

Super smooth! I get some early LOX vibes from this. Transitions and vocal chops serve to keep it refreshing and the listener engaged. Looking forward to hearing more with the SP from you!

    Tomblr Timeless

Lots of melodic and dynamic range in the piano parts. I think the drums may be a bit too heavy against the piano. Agree with @2GooD Productions that a few layers would really elevate this piece. Some subtle harmonies for the piano to sit on and added layers mirroring the piano while playing...

Hosie - Wake Up In The Morning!!

Drums bang! I like the heavy saturation on this. The sample is dope, but I found it to be a bit too choppy. My ears are having a hard time latching onto a particular melody or phrase. Just my personal taste. Otherwise, dope beat!

    The Leather Boy - "Shadows"

I got a very Aesop Rock/ Definitive Jux vibe from this joint. I loved the drums and how you played with the sample. Very nice underground vibe you accomplished here with the perfect amount of old school boom-bap!

    The Leather Boy - "Shadows"

YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! RJD2 meets Michel Menert meets RZA meets Pretty Lights!!! What you've done, sonically, with this sample is crazy. I'm in love! You caught my attention early, flipped the sample in a very unique way and made my head bob! DOPE!!!!

    The Leather Boy - "Shadows"

A bit tooo much vinyl warping :( Somehow the vocal chops sound out of key from the sample itself. Conceptually this is actually a fairly dope beat. Nice chops, movement and dynamics. The drums bang exceptionally well too! It just didn't sound right nin my headphones. There was a...

    Alan Hawkshaw - "Saturn Rings"

Such a dope flip! These are the most perfect drums for this sample. They add a frenetic vibe that counters the smooth sample nicely giving a great balance. The use of multiple pieces of the original sample to create phrasing is awesome as well. I could hear Common or Q-Tip putting some...

Hi All, Really enjoyed everything I've heard so far. I posted this little snippet/live performance to Youtube a few weeks back. Would love some feedback from this great community. Please note, this is my first submission to the "Showcase" community - so please, go easy on me lol Cheers...

Very dramatic!! The chip-tune/Arcade vibe makes me want to pump some more quarters into this track lol!!!! The synth melody is a bit too sharp in tone and texture for the rest of the track. Not sure if that's what your were going for - but a HP filter with some down sampling may have helped it...

I could totally envision Mobb Deep putting down some heat on top of this! The drums are grimey, gritty and bang hard! The instrument choice for the main melody felt a bit out of place thought. It's too clean and synthetic comparatively speaking. The counter melody and background melodic...

Hooked from the very first down beat!!! The house like, chiptune elements are incredibly charming. Trap style 808's have never been my thing but they suit this composition perfectly. the first Down filtered/tape stop transition helped build tension though I felt it was a bit abrupt. I think a...

    How to get 'choppy' drums?!

My first thought is to not time stretch your drum loop. If you tempo match and/or stretch your drum break/loop to your working tempo then it won't have that choppy feel. The only other obvious thing I can think of is, a long collected/curated library of drum samples. For example, a kick pulled...

Who/How/What To Study Regarding Music Production

I would co-sign most everybody else's pointers around music production and drumming. I'll say it's important to learn the following: Rhythm: No you're not born with it and yes it can be learned. By rhythm I mean, groove. Down beats versus up beats. Strong beats, weak beats, syncopations and in...

How much db variation from note to note until you begin to get into compression?

I use compression on virtually EVERYTHING. If i have reverb on one of drum elements - I'll use compression on my drum bus to give me a pumping feel. Most of my stuff is lo-fi/downtempo jazz-esque. Side chaining compression from the kick to bass and pad sounds definitely fits the aesthetic...

Unison stuff? Not gonna lie it's pretty legit IMO...

really just playing devil's advocate here, so please do not take it personal. One thing we can agree on, is that these chord packs will not make a song for you. You still have to have an 'ear' for music. In the case of chord packs, that means specifically, tension building and release. That for...

When MAKING BEATS, Whats the ORDER of your CREATIVE Process

This may seem like a silly question, but I figure myself a bit of a music 'educator' When starting with drums; what are you looking for? A head bob, or limitless groove? The reason I ask is this... ...I used to always start with drums. In fact, I would spend HOURS - sometimes multiple hours...

Beat remakes are in my opinion the number one greatest practice tool for making beats

This is actually an often over-looked piece of deconstruction. I imagine, it's helped with arrangements as well. Dynamics often play into builds and releases in tension - which is an integral part in making (pun intended) 'dynamic' and captivating arrangements.
