    well put man. its better to start off with good sounds that are well mixed and balanced, than to use some ruff stuff and try and force it to bang with mad limiting, compression and eq-in. a great mix wont need much re-touching, maybe some fine limiting to make it louder but nothing excessive...

    depends really whatever comes first. most times i lay the drums down and flow off that, but other times i hear a melody in my head and go put it down immediately and do the drums later. it doesnt really matter how you start, its how you finish.
