    The person paying the bill gets the final say.... Engineering is a service business and like it or not you are there to serve the client. So give them whatever they want, and feel free to suggest things along the way but and the end of the day it's up to them.

    I usually just reach out to an artist directly, but I do usually have a few tracks ready for them specifically and some idea of lyrical themes etc. This has worked the best for me. @OGBama Im a HUGE Stephen King fan, love that in your signature.

    Got some new Elektron stuff today. It’s pretty fantastic.

    I already own a rytm and I have analog four on my to buy list so I don’t know that Syntakt adds anything those other two devices can’t do, but I would get a syntakt today if I didn’t have a rytm. Elektron stuff is just bonkers man.

    @Iron Keys sorry, I wasn’t trying to be hard on you or anything. I think any artist should always have their own lawyer in their corner. It’s really easy to get in a bad way if you don’t fully know all the legal jargon etc.

    Well sorry but you are not right either. Again publishing, performance, mechanical are all different royalties and different splits. In general a lawyer should handle this because you are right, it's super complicated.

    Don’t do this yourself, have a lawyer do it. And while everyone means well in this thread the previous advice you got is incorrect. Publishing, mechanical and performance are all totally different royalties. If you need a legal referral hit me up I have two that I work with.

    Man "Life during wartime" is one of my all time favorite songs. They broke up when I was a kid, before I had even heard of them. I would have LOVED to seen them live. They inspired so many musicians and bands. Their influence was HUGE.
