I've lost many battles to beats I KNOW in my heart are better but it is what it is. Some of you take this way too seriously lol. Imagine being at a comedy club and the comic makes fun of your girlfriend/wife. Are you going to get all sappy and cry about it? I didn't go in on anyone, I simple...
Congratulations to @2GooD Productions! Well deserved win!
To be clear..I'm not shitting on anyone on this forum specifically. We're all talented and choose to produce the music we enjoy.
"I've even entered and won battles with it. Despite the fact I largely dislike the samey-same sounding of it." - That's exactly the problem with beat battles that aren't sub-genre specific. I shouldn't have to even think about uploading yet another...
If my words sway the votes more towards the boom-bappity beat than so be it! I expect everyone to decide based on their own opinion vs following what I say like blind sheep. I have no dog on this fight, I got disqualified, I don't know who produced what beat. I think I've expressed my opinion...
Who would've thought it came down to a trap beat vs a boom bap beat? I'm betting on the boom bap beat winning as I sense there's more old heads vs young on this forum. @Fade after this battle maybe create beat battles based on sub-genre of hip-hop for ex. Trap/Drill, 90's Hip-Hop, West Coast...
Mixing on most of the beats is shiet...not that it plays any major role on the outcome. If purely basing votes on mixing alone half of the beats would be disqualified.
Congratulation to @SJAMBOK BEATS ! It was a toss up between @SJAMBOK BEATS and @1301.36 for me. @NIIGH had the ingredients to make a dope beat but it just wasn't hitting as hard as it needed to be as in mixing/mastering. On a side note.... why does @Armani beat sound like a beat @Iron Keys...
The beat with the slapped on voice sample "I got the power" is dope as fuck! That old school, boom bap, gutter, NY vibes is my shit! The beat with the yoda sample is dope too. Some real nice boom-bappity beats in this comp! Props to these producers!
At the end of the day...if you have good reference monitors and trained ears, you will know who's mix is trash and who's actually studied. This debate is kinda pointless since nobody here is an audio engineer. If any of my beats are mixed badly I welcome anyone to give me their input so we can...
Keyword being "32 bit". Most DAW's support 32 bit exporting of mix downs. Which validates my point again, on why gain staging at least for me is not as important and less relevant to an experienced audio engineer. I'm not sure what you mean by keeping the faders in a high resolution area? I mix...
I disagree with you on gain staging. In these modern times, a good mastering engineer can work with mix downs that peak at 0 dBFS. Gain staging was used to give your buses extra "head room" to apply other effects to keep the audio levels below -6 dBFS. My mixes used to sound like dog shit back...
