When you sample, make sure the start and end points of itself or its loop are at zero (the middle horizontal line). Zoom in on the sample with your sample editor larger than life.

Before you are even near ready to tackle multiband compression, you need to learn about EQ and compression/dynamics first. these are two small components which when combined make a multiband compressor. if you know how to use a parametric eq and a normal compressor then you will know what to do with a multiband compressor, why, and what it's for.

You can prevent clipping by turning the volume down on the sound source (whether the program itself or using you mixer...if you have one)

But you sound like you need some help overall so here's my advice (not just for newbies but for anyone into production).. the best book you could get right now is "Home Recording for Musicians...For Dummies" No joke its awesome and answers a lot of questions... and goes in depth when you want to go that far...
