Does anyone know how to save beats through a zip drive or a cd rom.?I have an asr-x pro and need to save my music at a faster more reliable pace. What type of connections do I need and around how much would they cost? Is the same process when using an mpc? PLeasse let me know if you guys have any info on this. Thank you

I dont have an asr but to give you an example most hardware machines use a connection called "SCSI." Pronounced "scuzzy" For instance my triton and mpc have a SCSI connection. With SCSI you can hook up a harddrive or zip drive to save data. Some machines come with it built others you have to buy it seperate.

You have to read your manuals to see what devices are compatible with your hardware. You can find these on websites or ask here. The manuals should be able to tell you if you can hook up a cd burner to it. Just think about it, you can't just hook up any device, the asr has to know what it is to be able to function with it. So again this list should help you.

Also because of this situation companies will come out with various updates for the hardwares OS. That is the operating system your asr is running. Look for an update for your machine to increase its functuality.

Hey Sober, you helped me a hell of alot. I really appreciate it. I do in fact have a "scuzzy" cable. I really would like to hook it up to a cd burner but do not think that the asr wil be able to read a device like that. DO you happen to know anyone with an asr, that would know if this is possible. I dont remember reading about that in the manual. Thanks again. ONe

Hey,

In order for your ASR to be able to save data to a cd-rom, it has to have software which will allow it to recognise a drive as a CD burner, and it has to know how to write to the drive. I would be surprised if the ASR was able to do this.

If you wanted to save to a Zip drive, you will have to buy one which has a scsi connection on it, and the ASR would have to have software which allowed it to write to it. I would be surprised if the ASR WASN'T able to do this.

You may be able to connect the ASR directly to your computer if you have a scsi card plugged into it. If you look around the net, I'm sure that there are people who have done this, or at least they will be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for your help. What software would you recomend for this type of procedure? I simply want to burn my beats from the asr floppy disks to a cd. Get at me.

From what i can understand you are trying to put your beats on a cd. In your situation the best thing to do is load your beat on your asr and then from the "outs" of your asr connect it into the "ins" of your computer. You can use software like sawpro or cool edit to then record the beat in "wav" format that is used to burn into an audio cd.

I used to do this to get my beats from my mpc to the computer. I would plug the outgoing sound from the mpc into the incoming port into the computer's soundcard. Your sound card should have an "input" port which should be tinted blue. Well don't worry about the color mine was blue but you might not have the same soundcard, so just look for an input port on the back of your soundcard. In your windows audio properties (usually just double click on the sound icon at the toolbar at the bottom) make sure that the incoming sound is selected to record from the input port and not the mic port. <----this is critical! don't forget!

Then with a program like cool edit i would hit record and then play the beat from the mpc. Once the beat is finished playing hit stop , then saved my beat, and i have now my beat in wav format and ready to burn.

well the outputs of your asr should be 1/4 ports. Uh...this is like the bigger kind of the headphone jacks from walkmans. And the input of the soundcard should be the size of a regular heaphone jack. So in terms you need a BIG to small audio cable.

Im not familiar with thier specific names but just think of the 1/4 audio cable as a bigger version of a regular headphone cable. I used a cable that on one end had the 1/4 plug and on the other end it had a regular headphone size plug.
