Can you copyright a song if you have not cleared the sample? I really would like to know.

Short and sweet...No. You can copyright what you add without the sample, but the sample, even if it's cleared, belongs to the writer(s) of the original song.

...the same way you copyright a song that isn't sold... www.copyright.gov fill out a PA or SR...depends on your situation... draw up a contract stating you keep rights...yada, yada... prolly quite a few threads like this if you search...
