I'm trying to multitrack in Cool Edit.

Anyway I've recorded an instrumental into track1 from an old record. I want to record some scratches onto track2.

So i record onto track2, do my cuts but it records the instrumental+the scratches on track2, and all i want on track2 is the scratches.

Is there anyway i can hear the instrumental, but not record it when doing my cuts?

in your windows mixer. (start programs accessories entertainment volume controls)

go to options then click recording, and uncheck wave/mp3 and anything else that isnt mic or line in/analog mix.

try to be as specific as possible if the line out from your turbtable is goin into the mic jack on your computer then select mic. if its the line in then select line in or analog mix. make sure you do not have "what you hear" selected or it will record everything thats playin (includin the instrumental on track 1)

Hey LavRock didn't mean to cause any offence to you, buy starting this new thread. It's just that I've got a bit of a pre-conception that people check this section more than the troubleshooting section.

Anyway, this is how i've got everything set-up.

Right, I have a Stanton SA5 mixer with a Audiophile 2496 soundcard.

I have both of my turntables plugged into pgm1 and pgm2 phono inputs. I have the master output of my mixer running into the video/dvd on my hifi.

I have the audio/phono OUT on my soundcard running into the session on my mixer. The "computer rec" on my mixer is running into the "phono in" on my soundcard.

Make sense?

I was messing with the 2496 on the PC last night. I got to record my scratches on their own, but i muted the instruemental. SO i couldn't hear the beat i was cutting to

if i was using cool edit to record multitracks i would be pulling my hair out (if i had any) i suggest investing in Acid Pro my friend... one question... does your computer play the sounds that your mixer produces?.....

ok ok i got a picture of a program that everybody sleeps on... its called goldwave... it lets u specify which sound port u record from and it just mite be wut your looking for.

Thanks LavRock, I'm gonna test out Goldwave.

I do have acid pro, it's just that I find using cool edit a bit easier cos i can trim down the audio, and silent parts quick and easily.

I'll try them all out and see which works best

Cheers

There was more a problem with the way i had the in's and out's routed on mixer. So hopefully, if i don't go out to the IMAX tonight I might have a hip-hop mix online for all of ya'll to hopefully enjoy:clap:
