How do I get Cubase to understand that I want it to controll my harwaresampler?

make a midi track, left of the track it says mid out, select your sound card there.

RTFM on your hardware and start assigning them midi channels, you set midi track to chnl. 1 then anything set to chnl.1 in the midichain ( your hardware responding to the midi out from your soundcard ).
