While sitting at home bored I decided to start a project...I was sick and tired of beating my studio speakers up with subharmonic freqs. so I decided to fix the problem...I run 4 Technique SB-L95's full range speakers with 15 subs on my main system. Ofcorse my workstation and everything else runs thru it. I use 2 dbx subharmonic synths to get that deep sub bass ( 28 Hz ) thru my system. Needless to say, I found my self constantly turning the volume down or adjusting my crossovers to compensate for the extreme lows. Here is my solution...

I built a 15 sub enclosure and re-routed my sub bass thru my dbx120 and a seperate amp. I cant believe the difference it made! My whole house shakes when I turn the volume up. I've never been able to reach the volume levels that I can now. On top of that, I'm adding life to the subs in my Techniques not to mention the self satisfaction of doing it myself and not spending a ton of $$$$$.

I was so impressed that I thought I'd share this with you cats. So if you ever get bored...do it yourself!

That's GREAT that you built your own enclosure, I've got to try that. If you were to buy such a thing ready made, what would it be called and where would you find one?

Subs, And Why Your Sub Level Became Louder
The rise in low level frequency is because of the pressure zone effect created by the enclosure. Any decrease in space in which the initial frequency is exhibited creates this effect. An enclosure like yours does that, but it's not a natural rendition of the sound.

Low frequencies are dissipations of energy that create excitations of the natural resonances of a room or enclosure. They are different than higher frequencies that follow a linear path from source to receptor.

You have to think about how a mix will sound in a common signal chain. This means: can a normal person with factory speakers in their automobile hear the subs that you depend on as a bassline or bass drop? Is it necessary? What can you do to make the bass more prominent in a more "classical" bass frequency range as to satisfy the normal listener's flavour for bass.

Just things to think about.

its called a "4th order bandpass" I haven't seen any already built but I'm sure that your local competition auto sound shop has someone who can build one for you.

I paid...
$12.00 for a sheet of particle board.
$15.00 for the hardware {wood screws, wood glue, liquid nails, 2" foam insulation }.
$150 for the sub.

god you're absolutely right and trust me, I never entended on creating the perfect sound by building it. Like I said, I was bored. You asked " do you { I } really need it?" No, but I like the saying..."it's better to have and not need than to need and not have. By the way, I've always wanted to ask you, which came first, the chicken or the egg? lol j/p. But seriously god, thanks for your input.
