so everyone will know..its not always a one man show..its once one name gets the credit...

Dre's Dream Team

Dr. Dre is quick to give his Dream Team credit. “I don’t have a main instrument. I feel my brain is my instrument. In my opinion, I’m not really that good of a musician. That’s why I hire the best musicians around. Like Camara Kambon, he’s one of the keyboard players, and Mike and Scott. Everybody just adds their part to the soup and it comes together.” Here are the vital statistics:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LARRY CHATMAN
Title: Production Manager
Birthplace: Chicago, IL
Nickname: Uncle
Years on the Job: 10
Job Description: In charge of organizing Dre’s recording, movie, video, and tour activities. Chatman makes it happen! “Dre comes up with the ideas and I’ve got to put it all together. Basically, he makes one call to me and I do the rest.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MAURICO IRAGORRI
Title: Engineer
Birthplace: Los Angeles, CA
Nickname: Veto
Time on the job: 7 months
Job Description: “Dre wants me to make his stuff sound as clean and clear as possible. I always EQ the tape. We put a lot of bottom on kicks, even snares, and get it set so, when it comes back, it already sounds EQ’d. [Dre] expects me to make the session run smoothly — have everything set up and ready to go when he walks in.

“The other thing he depends on me for is to know everything we’ve done and where it’s cataloged on DAT. If he plays a beat that we did for Mary J. Blige, I have to know which one he’s talking about and play it for him right there. Of course, I know where it’s at because I recorded it.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MIKE ELIZONDO
Title: Track Writer/Bass/Co-Producer
Birthplace: Los Angeles, CA
Nickname: Bomba
Years on the Job: 5
Job Description: “Dre, Scott, and myself will show up at the studio and just start vibing. Dre will have some beats going and I’ll start with a guitar riff or a bass line — we start jamming. Once an idea sounds good, the skeleton of it, Dre will ask Veto to start rolling the DAT. While Dre and the artist are writing the lyrics, we’ll be laying the track down on two-inch. That’s the beginning stage of it.

“On Snoop’s The Last Meal record [2000, Priority], it was just Dre and I goofing around. I started off with the guitar riff and he’d have the drums and there would be something there that would spark an idea. Then we would start building on top of that. My big thing is — in any situation — to just try and latch on and find a role and do that. With Dre, it began with being his musician, then it led to doing co-writes on some things, then the Snoop record, with some co-production.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SCOTT STORCH
Title: Keys/Songwriter/Co-Producer
Birthplace: Long Island, NY
Years on the Job: 2
Job Description: “There’s no one particular formula. I get cracking on a couple of beats with Mike and Mel-Man — we try to come up with the best music collectively. But, typically, Dre will come in with a beat idea and then we all play around it.”

^^^^ dont get it twisted production is more than just making beats and bangin on the pads... u think quincy jones plays all the instruments himself? .... cmon wake up... most A-list hip hop producers work with musicians and other collaborators .. kanye has other people all of over his production ... Dre aint lazy .... i dont why people somehow think that a hip hop producer has to do everything from a to z himself .. in other genres many times the producers dont even touch any instruments. Why should hip hop be diffrent? Dre aint always making the beat, but he is the glue that provides the focus and direction.. have you ever worked with a team of creative artist to make a track? I have and the shit is not easy man.... everybody wants to go on their own tangents and it easy to lose focus and get absolutely nothing done. Keeping people focused and motivated is an art in itself.

I cant tell u how many times I gave a beat to an artist only for him to sleep on it forever and get it back to me like months or in some cases years (lol) later. Or ive had people in the studio that dont listen to directions and are not ready to work. Or they come to the studio drunk and high and not sharp and on point. Or they dont know there lyrics. These are things I am trying to overcome on my quest to being the best PRODUCER i can be, not just a beat maker. I am not attacking you personally big rob, i got respect 4 u, but people who say things like dre is lazy, or he doesnt do shit do not understand the amount of dedication and hard work being a working producer involves, real talk, trust me ive seen a million rappers, and beat makers talk all this shit, but when its time to grind to get focused and grind they puss out and are never prepared. Everybody wants to kick there little freestyle and play that hot beat they made yesterday, but shit gets real diffrent real quick when ur working with multiple people, deadlines, egos, conflicting schedules, and other obstacles. I dont mean to vent but it pisses me off when cats who havent even released any street level material (again this aint a personal attack because i dont know u or know what u have released) try and discredit hard working producers.

yeah i feel you on that aspect lol.. dre always takes 7 years between albums how crazy is that ......but the thing with detox is that i heard he didnt even want to do it in the first place ... eminem, 50 etc convinced him to do it ... so i doubt he has been as focused on it as he should have been... but no ones heard anything from dre in awhile so my guess hes been cookin up sum shit in the studio!

yea but hes got a lot of other stuff hes doing all the time especially with 50 being as big as he is and having so many new signings all the time plus id rather him take 7 years than release and album every couple of years and have everyone say its wack !

You have to remember, Dre is really supportive of the artists he puts out. He cancelled Detox a few years ago and gave a lot of dope beats away (In Da Club, Higher, Westside Story, for example.) Now that he's doing it, he has to make new beats to replace and match those classics he gave away.

no one will remeber a delayed album but everyone remembers a bad one

truth.

as for givin beats away, i know for sure that In Da Club was made specifically for D12, but they couldnt see themselves on it. higher and westside story, i dont think he intended to use them for himself.

I have no clue why i said that, but i see whatu sayin

I was misinformed about those particular ones but I know for a fact that he gave away some Detox beats.
