Looks like HP is stepping up there laptop game! Apple better watch out with these specs

I don't know homie....if I spend that kind of money on a Laptop (spent around $1600 on my MacBook after memory upgrade) it would have to be a Mac. That joint has a lot of bells and whistles but when it comes to music production on a Laptop it's hard to beat a Mac. 16Gig seems like over kill for a Laptop.....Desktop Quad....sounds good...laptop hmmmmm not as inviting to me.

But yeah, for that much I would just get a maxed out iMac or a MacBookPro for that matter.

Yea I here you but Ive seen PC laptops run just as smooth as a Mac laptop setup and it depends on what your running.This joint looks official i7 processors are super fast and you can have up to 16gig i believe.I read online apple is not even updating the macbook pro with i7 processors which is stupid on there part.I dont care if its mac or pc as long as it performs and these specs along with Windows 7 Ultimate should be top of the line

Mac's laptop line needs an update on there specs to me they are overpriced for what they have in them.I just think that people have flock to them being the standard and people almost force people to believe that you gotta have a mac and pc's dont perform that well.Its almost the same as the effect the MPC has had on hip-hop, alot of new generation cats that werent taught on a MPC go out and get one just because they have been told you gotta get a MPC to get a certain sound when in truth you can get it done in any DAW out there.

Everybody has there own opinion on this subject as it is a highly debated topic with producers and engineers

Not to turn this into a mac vs pc debate cuz Im certainly not up for it these days but I gotta humbly disagree with you man.

I was a hardcore PC user FOREVER all the way up until 3 yrs ago. I actually hated them originally and thought the same exact things. To me it was ironically just like the lame commercials say "their all aesthetics with no spec comparison".....I literally thought that for a long ass time. They were pretty but I didn't care back then.

Mind you, i was making music on a PC for a span of 7 yrs before I finally took the plunge.
Eventually i decided to try my luck at a mac since I wanted to simply work on a different OS. IMO, THATS REALLY WHERE MAC'S STRENGTHS LIE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

And even after I first got it it was a bit weird cuz I was acclimated to a PC for so long....but eventually i started getting used to it and discovering all these amazing features that simply didnt exist on a PC platform - plain and simple.

Now I would honestly never go back, thats my word man!
My mac has increased my productivity and improved my workflow in both graphics and music that I would just never want to switch back, there would be no point - so IMO its mos def worth money.

I just hate windows now with a passion in comparison to OSX.
And on top of all that - the OS is just so much more impressive performance wise.
The irony is you can actually get away with even the base model specs of a macbook even and kick some serious ass in your DAW or whatever program your using. Same goes for graphics, ill testify to that.

I just think the argument is silly when it gets put into the context of "its like buying a MPC" though cuz thats really not what it comes down to at all. HONESTLY. So theres my retort.

That's exactly why you need a Mac. The best of both worlds with bootcamp! Throw Windows 7 Ultimate on that MacBook and keep it moving. You may get into video production or editing sooner or later and nothing ..... I mean nothing fux with Final Cut Pro. Vegas will be an after thought after u see what Final Cut can do. The thing is that most of what you'll ever use for music production doesn't require a monster processor like that and if it does it'll be much much better to go with an "airy" desktop with multiple cool running "quiet" fans and enough surrounding space to let those processors breath. There is just no way you can get ample temperature control with a Laptop like that without extra accessories and even then I wouldn't trust it! There's just too much that can go wrong that would side line your entire studio if it's built around a Laptop.

Just my two cents J....think about it!

Like I said everybody has there own opinions and experiences on this so there is no need to even go there.Whatever works for you it works for you.The MPC statement was in regards how easily people can be influenced by what is the so called standard and the same goes for mac/pc.

I would never ever build a studio around a laptop Im replacing everything from this robbery so for me it starts with the desktop computer and the laptop is only used for traveling purposes or other studio sessions.Ive been debating with my engineer and were just checking around for new gear and options that will work.Mac's are great for music and graphics and I never said there weren't. I always had a concern though with running logic on a laptop with some heavy vst synths and how well it would perform

Logic 9 looks super nice

Logic is a BEAST.....everything sounds O so crispy! The EXS and Ultrabeat are CRAZY. I'm running it on a standard MacBook....not even a MacBook Pro and it's working just fine. You have sooooo many built in instruments on Logic that you really don't have to use VSTi's and as far as effects processors I don't think you can do better than what comes stock with Logic 9. They have some very very nice features and I love the various templates that you can choose from the beginning of your project. They have 3 main ones with various sub level templates under them. They keep you in the frame work of what your doing which gets you from point A to point B without wondering around in the dark. I mainly use the compose template which has sub templates consisting of your choice of an Empty Project, Electronic, Hip Hop (gritty mix of drums kits and analog synth), R&B, Rock and Songwriter. Other than adding few additional tracks for one of two of your favorite vsti's you should be able to crank out some tight music within the frame work of those templates. I'm really feeling the Stereo Mastering template under the Produce main template as well. I'm definitely looking forward to exporting a few songs that I produce with ableton as wave files and dropping them in Logic for mixing and Pre mastering. I'm still in the "finding out what it's all about phase" but I really like what I've seen and learned so far. I had Logic 7 and never touched it but I'm going to put in the time and effort to learn 9.

Yea Im really looking into Logic 9, the only thing I would hate to do is get a macbook pro and then they update it to some new processors lol! My typical sessions probably would contain Battery 3,Kontakt 4, Omnisphere, Nexus and some chopped up loops so I know I could get the majority of my production work done on a macbook pro

Dude my boy has the MacbookPro and he runs intensive sessions in Logic that span up to 50 tracks with heavy processing on almost each track alongside many vsti's. It still performs flawlessly.

I got a macbook still even tho i wanted to cop the pro version, just never had the scrilla to do so (still dont)....but even my macbook can compete with my homies pro pretty well....I made sure to max my ram tho when i got it so i have 2gigs of ram. But I honestly love my little macbook still. The only thing that sucked about my generation of macbook is the build quality of the computers case which cracked on me once but then applecare took care of the entire replacement for free.

The new macbooks and macbookpros have been definitely upgraded in build quality tho from when i copped mine.

I love HP products, I've owned nothing but HP's in my day..I am very impressed with their performance, and durability...

I wouldn't waste my money on this laptop.

You could spend equal amt of money on a Macbook...and still have the ability to run both OSs via bootcamp. I didn't read anyone elses comments but I'm sure the Mac heads already stated this...

This laptop is going to run extremely hot....there's no way you're run that much speed in a laptop without shortcomings...This thing is going to overheat constantly...laptops (especially PC laptops) have limited cooling potential and a processor like that needs a lot of cooling..

HP is going to lure PC lovers into buying this laptop and they will sell all of them....but with all that on that laptop, you still can't beat the Macbook...Apple has the notebook game on smash....

ive been doing one thing since LP9, record a loop, turn flex on in arrange, hit the audio editor on the loop -> detect transients -> hit back to audio channel containing the loop and set flex to slicing -> right click loop, cut at transients -> from audio -> audio to sampler track...

turn on mpc

i cant really tell about the performance, im still running 10.5.8, 10.6 should give the best performance.

On topic 16Gb ? Thats one hell of a recording event (dre's recording classical music these days ?!) if i had to take 56chnls mobile recording i'd still choose apple mpb since it could use logic node on the xserves (if you would need that). The only other thing i could think off is movie production but ^^^^ mac (b) pro + xserve are just the godlike workstations available atm

platform debates = wasted time, you can modify the linux kernel on a mac OS X distro to run on ANY HARDWARE! OR you could even emulate the flashrom to make it boot on almost any core2duo based system with an intel chipset.

back on topic-
the new laptop specs sounds like a pretty fair deal for anyone looking to get that workstation umph out of a mobile platform. i'd advise someone to buy into it at entry price, then perform the memory upgrades on your own, which will save you a lot of stress on your wallet.
