Examples of CO1U USB Mic Usage

I have read the threads here about the Samson CO1U USB Condenser Mic. I first saw this in the Sweetwater catalog and immediately wanted it as I am currently starting out in my personal amateur studio. I've heard good things about the mic, but I want to hear examples from my people here about their experiences with it. If anyone has recorded with it, please link me to your music so I can check it out.

Also, do you think I should just go ahead and invest in a better mic? I do not know very much about mics, so if someone could link me to a helpful site about microphones for vocals please let me know.

Thanks,
Erica

When it comes to mics, if you ask ten people which mic to get, you'll get ten answers. If you just starting out, then that C01U will be fine. Matter of fact its a damn good mic for that price. Don't expect to sound like a Baseline session tho.

It only really makes sense to spend more than $200-250 on a mic if you have a good spot to record with sound treatments etc. and you know what you're doing as far as recording and engineering wise. Because a bad room and an inexperienced engineer will make a Neumann sound like shit. Buying an inexpensive mic to get started and learn is the best way to go. When I started recording back in 01, I started out with an AT3035. There weren't as many cheap options as it is now.

Right now I have a sE Electronics SE3300a ($500) running into a Bellari RP220 preamp ($350) and a Bellari RP583 compressor ($450) (I upgraded the components in the 220 and one day Ima do the 583). I set up the closet with Auralex foam (lol that made the biggest difference...) Its definitely not top of the line gear, but it sounds damn good, because I guinea pigged my rappers for five years until I was good at it and then I upgraded my equipment, not the other way around.

Other options in that price range is the Marshall MXL and Studio Projects. sE Electronics has some cheaper mics too. You can google all of them.

Take a read at the article below. From the reading of what u wrote u may still have a few questions about mics in general such as types, placements,ect... If this isnt what u lookin for please disregard.

Also I have known of a few people who have used USB mics and catch hell gettin them to be recognized in there recording software. But im pretty sure a driver will handle that.(they may not have had the settings or a driver right)

OK! I AM CONVINCED! I checked out all four of those sites and am convinced that the mic I just purchased was a great value for what I need right now. I listened to the tracks from those artists link and it sounds very clear and warm at the same time. The output and clarity sounds VERY good.

THANK YOU for the help, really answered all my questions.

Also keep in mind mic placement and levels are also important(refer to link i previously posted). Also get you a popper stopper if u can. Also remember if its in the RED thats not a good thing something needs lowering. But um u know that already probally. Good luck and have fun.
