Looking @ the new Poll (Should musicians comment on politics?) has made me curious...

So, I've searched the web, and found this lil' documentary:

Fight the power - The link between hip hop and politics goes way back and the voices in black music are getting more active. Doc Brown goes Stateside in search of the stars taking an interest in politics like Russell Simmons, Erykah Badu and Dame Dash.
We go back to basics with grass roots activism at the Hip Hop Action Summit Network, with crim-turned-conscious rapper, Steel and political label, Raptivism Records.
Fight the Power looks at the ways people are getting involved and asks whether they can really make a change.

I think musicians should TALK about politics, but not get too involved in it.

Leave it to the pros i say. Everyone hates on politicians, but its not an easy job.

yea i agree, i think its when politics is the only thing that a musician focuses on is when music suffers. at least for my own music ill dedicate a couple tracks here and there to say what i gotta say about political issues, but to be all about it gets old real fast, at least in my opinion. i know i dont want to listen to entire album of some dude rantin and ravin about how much he hates the system. but now again, sure...

Ideal would be not to mix music with politics, but ...

In concern and anger of a musician, singer or producer I find it good ( but useless ) to bring a bad political issue to the light through their talent. I say useless because if Im looking at the reason of the topic I'd say the US government sucks but what would only help is a revolution, asking for the reuth is too much already. You pay tax so you should know where it's going to and have a representative that ensures the public that it goes to the proper cause. You'll notice that at times when governments go to far most artist will make their contribution to share the message, but in general I feel it has nothing to do with music.

i think that more musicans should get involved in poltics, espically hip hop artist. To many cats are out here talkin about pointless B.S .

If a dude can pitch some g-unit sneakers to poor blacks. He can talk about how jeb bush(fl governer) took away afframitve action in florida. He can talk about the demgraphics of healthcare and how less then 25% of black americans can afford heath insurance.

More cats need to address the raical climate in america and not on some fuck whitey bull shit but on some real ish. Cats need to ask polticions why african americans are being left behind in almost every stastic.

Music has everything to do with poltics, music is about converying a message and thats the perfect medium to influnce poltical views.

I know if i make it in this busniess i will be very outspoken and political. Espcially about the touchy topics like RACE!!!!!!

class is straight up right again, i mean comeon, which lyrics strike more of a chord with you:

rass kass - nature of the threat or any tune by paris,

or some lame ass cash money lyrics.

We all sit here and whine about how misrepresented hiphop is nowadays with these wack ass cats on the tube, and in the same breath say 'it shouldnt be too political', comeon thats wack. Me personally i would take some political Mos Def or Public Enemy rhymes over some party bumper anyday.

This does of course depends on my mood and shit.
