finally got my first mpc

today i bought the classic 2000..and i must say its amazing!!!!!! i always thought that u can do the same ish with both software and hardware...but now i realize hardware is a way better!! sound is absolutely awesome!! any tips for a newbie??

amazing what zero latency control does for you ey lol!

yeah, expand it with an internal zip drive, or external via scsi. I dunno if there's support for a flash media bay installation instead of a zipdrive for the classic 2k but that's practical too. Also scsi4samplers have nice combo units, cdrom and hd into a minitower at a fair price.

You can not put a SCSI or IDE Drive internally into the MPC inless u get some pricey modification done. You can use an external drive which can be bought from ebay or www.scsi4samplers.com

In about 3 or 4 months i will be installing internal drives in the mpc2000 along with other features. I will keep you posted.

there are ide 2 scsi sockets, for real they should help out the pricey modifications. I've also heard that the xl doesnt really need the os 1.15 to support the flash media bay. But i have no info on the classic model regarding this.

yeah, there isnt much to clean but you can pop the cover open and give it a good rinse. Mine has gained the nicotine color, im diggin it hehe.

right, you cannot add the to the mpc2k, you'd be depending on the scsi port from the motherboard. In that case the scsi4samplers Combo would be nice, I assume they have cardreaders, cd-rom and hd all optional... in any case the best solution and not that expensive. Second and smaller solution would be an external scsi cardreader, midicase suggest the microtech PCD-40 ( http://www.midicase.com/card_reader_guide.htm )

External SCSI card readers are actually an internal card reader in a $5 box with a connector and power supply. This is a good option for MPC2000 owners as this model has no internal SCSI (without expensive modifications). If you get an external card reader, you can use it as is for any model. The PCD-40 is an exception as it was built as a external model only, sort of like a SCSI Zip, but I have a suspicion it is based on the PCD-25.

No because they are goin to be 40pin which the MPC doesnt contain 40 pin it contains 34 pin. The MPC2000 does not have an internal SCSI or place for an 40 pin drive. It would take modification once again to complete.

If you find a SCSI to 34 pin socket please show me.

hehe..right i need some gearporn, im look for the 20pin socket, if its there than I think I know what protocol has been used, now im guessing ACSI-SCSI, but that needs 20 pin connector to drive, 1 is a 34 pin as you mentioned but it would also need a 20 pin connector to hook up.

I responded to your pm about this. I listed the compatible ones i know but like i stated in the pm you can buy the memory from ebay from sellers who are selling actual compatible chips. The link below is to a seller saleing memory. You will get two chips for that price. 16mb each. Which is cheaper than that link u sent me.

Just know this. There really isnt an easy way out. There are two ways of goin about it but im not goin to discuss. But one thing i can tell you is if you DO NOT know about schematics, soldering, electical wiring, and at least computer/electronic building then this job is not for you.

hah, I really need someone to open op their classic and take a snapshot of the 34 pin connector. Appearantly there are some discontinued media drives with 3'5 drive (HD/DD)

The 34 pin connector is the same 34 pin u use on a standard 3.5 floppy drive. There are some discontiued drives but that would be stupid to go from floppy to a slower loading/saving device. Thats why its a better step to go to a zip drive. Think about it. As far as Hard drives i dont know much cause i havent put that into my research cause im not worried about an internal hard drive as of now.

its better imho because:

1) the sounds i put in it sounded absolutely different (i mean quality is better) than they sound on pc;
2) the workflow is awesome..i was bangin a few sequences in like 10 minutes w/o reading a manual..
3) the pads are dope..i have midi keyboard and was messing with mpd16..they aint nothing compared to the mpc's pads..mpc's pads give me absolutely a different feeling than a midi controller..
4) that note repeat button is dopeness..i wont need to click every note on my pc to make a drum roll..
5) it's a classic model..
6) i bought it for only $140
7) it saves my eyes..now i dont need to look at my pc all the time..
8) that's all i can say for now, cause i bought it only YESTERDAY...
