The 34 pin connector is the same 34 pin u use on a standard 3.5 floppy drive. There are some discontiued drives but that would be stupid to go from floppy to a slower loading/saving device. Thats why its a better step to go to a zip drive. Think about it. As far as Hard drives i dont know much cause i havent put that into my research cause im not worried about an internal hard drive as of now.

Yeah, the 34 pin's FDD, but opposed to installing a HD or Zip I also found 3,5" HD/DD + 7-in-1card reader in FDD format. I found 3 models so far: Mitsumi, Ye-Yato and a Logitech. Cheapest one I encountered was about 21 euro but I dont have a mpc2k classic so its pointless for me to check it out much further. Ima hook up with a dutch buddy who has a classic and see how it goes.

Are you 100 percent sure b/c i know there are card readers with floppy on them but they also require USB and thats for the card reader. You can hook up an floppy cable to it but its not goin to power the card reader only the floppy drive so thats a waste. Send me a specific model number and I will tell if it will work or not. But all the ones i have researched over 100 require USB for the card reader.

okay its a tuff cookie indeed and you're right about your conclusion, nothing would work out except the forat mod. I assume they not only modded the zipdrive and made a custome edge adapter but also updated an OS to it. A cardreader wouldnt work because the 34pin transfer speed is to slow to handle flash media, consider the amount of storage to process. Another issue would be a storage able to boot from which also isnt always the case. I found 2 alternatives, tape storage....ehm very oldskool and rather noisy Im affraid. The second is via Sony Memory Stick Floppy Disk Adapter ( model no. MSAC-FD2MA ), though I havent tested ( and I cant since I dont own a classic ) this seems the only mass storage device that would work for the mpc2k. I've spotted them for 50 bucks new and considering there's a limit the mpc can read from, a 512 or 1gb memory stick should be sufficient enough to have fun with...especialy opposed to the 300buck forat upgrade for a 250mb zip...

again, I can be sure but this look likes the best bet for mass storage the mpc2k, If anyone's testing let me know. I passing this along a few friends who do have the 2k and will try this out...

^^same problem, they have 2 connectors, one 34pin fdd and usb. The USB cable should hook up to a motherboard USB but the mpc doesnt have that. And due to the transfer speed of 34pin fdd It unlikely to come across one, in those specs you have to look at a scsi cardreader but they will not runn internaly cuz it only runns scsi externaly. I found brand new Sony FDD adapter for 9 pounds, sealed n well, there's plenty to be found on ebay.

What u listed above once again WILL NOT WORK b/c it requires drivers in order to be recognize. So people please dont spend your money on this. This was dissussed at the mpc forums site if u need referrence.

Formant024 not sure if u know this or not but no OS update is needed from Forat. Its a modification thing.

U just need to know the ins and outs of the MPC2000. I finally have it figured out but will I tell nope. But once its complete i will post up.
