I've got my Trigger Finger set up nicely on FL. But, I'm trying to set the Cut/Cut By for my hi-hats. I've done it the exact way they tell you to. I've got my closed hat on 1 (or whatever) and my open hat is on the same in Cut By. Why isn't it working? Any ideas guys?

Oh yeah, it's cracked.

But, yeah, I'm working in the step sequencer. Where you go to Misc, and there's the Cut Group and Cut by Which boxes.

did you fix your problem?

Cuz if you didn't, what you should do is to is to check if the release on your enveloppe is not too high... cuz if it is, that could be the reason why it doesnt cut as you wanted it to.

So...set the Cut value (the LCD on the left) to some number in the channel that will cut notes and then set the Cut By value (the LCD on the right) to the same number in another channel (that will be cut from the first one).

then... Set your release time short, then, you wont hear a note fading out after it was cut. That's because cutting just sets all notes' envelopes to release state.

I cut the release time already, but when I hit the pad, the sound is too short. I'm trying to cut my open hi-hat with my closed, by the way...

I read that you only made the 'cut by' the same. you should make all the numbers the same, put them in the same cut group.

the easiest way would be to set ur hats (open, closed, pedal etc) to the same numbers. like give the same 'cut which group' number and 'cut by which group' number to those samples. eg. 1 and 1

noooo!

openhat is 2 cut by closedhat which is 1

If you want to emulate a real hihat being cut off by a retrigger, then they should cut eachother. it doesnt quite work if the openhat doesnt cut the closed hat, but the closed hihat cuts the open hihat. theres only one hihat on a drum set. any hit on it from anywhere (stick or pedal) is a cut/retrigger. thus they should be in the same cut group and should both get cut off by the same group.

and another point: how fake is an openhat not cutting itself gonna sound?

Retro was right, even though he pretty much just repeated what i said with more elaboration.

I understood that... but, when Fruity is using the option "cut by" the cut is made with the release time on the instrument...

So...

1- On the opened and closed hihat, "Cut" and "cut by" should both be on the same number...

2- Actually, close the enveloppe section... normally, that is used when you're on the piano roll...

3- If you want to, you could always use the piano roll and the envelope to control the amount of time the sound will be heard... (but you gotta know how to use the ADSR controls of the envelope...)
It's a bit more complex, so stick to the cut/cut by option
