The further you slide it the more swing it adds to your beats. Whereas before hats would go "tat tat tat tat tat" they would now go "tat tatta tat tatta" or something similar. Put a basic kick snare kick kickick snare pattern in then slide it up and you'll see the difference

forget about the swing, it's so much simpler to add your own swing exactly where you want it. FL swing is crazy, you basically have to program next to nothing to use it. I never use it.

after you've made your basic beat, paste it to a new pattern. on the new pattern if you wanna put swing on your hi hats, clone that channel and but a echo on it. Decide how many and how fast you want it.

i usually just displace the notes from the grid by double clicking them on the piano roll and changing their length/start times....works pretty good for me!

I really need to start using that double clicking in piano roll function. I never really understood it or used it before but I'mma do my best with it and see what result I can come up with...

man the swing in FL is the best out thereif you know wut your doin with it. it too simple you slide it either to the left or to the right. get the right swing that you want, then send it to the piano roll. just like that.

I always use the swing, I love it.
also the shift function is very helpfull to use with drumrolls, you can place sounds closer together.
in the piano roll you can make chords and things like that.
it works best with synths, but you can use samples also.
I can send you a zipped fruity loops file if you like N.U.G. so you can see how I use it.

Let me clarify this thread and clean up, cuz everyone adding they own tid bits is prolly gonna make it confusing to the person who started the thread.
The "swing' refers to a sort of cheat in the beats per minute count and say for example on a regular kick snare set up, the swing sort of add a millisecond gap before the snare hits when you turn it on, the higher you turn more milliseconds, so its like kick, pause snare, kinda gives you that three o clock, four o clock rock type of vibe, its very useful in hip hop and i always use it, makes the beats easy to rhyme on because of the delayed snare, to access this swing its to the upper right corner of the step sequencer, with the words "swing" that the automated feature, to do this manually look to the upper right for the box where the metronome is at and look on it for SNAP above that you see LINE, click on that you see a drop down box, these control how your notes are placed in the piano roll, place it on NONE, and tada you can place and edit the notes in the piano roll freely.
Hope I Helped
