What Up Everybody,

I Am Getting Into Software Production Coming From An Mpc 2000xl Background And I Came Across The Fxpansion Software Drum Machine.it Supposed To Be Like The Mpc As Far As Creating Patterns But I Have Some Questions If Any Knows And I Need Some Advice

Questions:

1.can I Chop Of My Samples Off Of Records( Like A Al Green Vocal Sample Or Orchestra String Samples) And Use Them In The Pattern Sequencer That Guru Has Just Like The Mpc?

2.how Good Is This Program Compared To My Mpc, Is The Workflow Just As Simple?

3.if I Used Guru Would I Have A Need For A Program Like Fl Studio 6(because Fl Studio You Create Patterns And Arrange Them),would You Recommend I Use Guru & Fl Studio 6 Together?

4.what Would Be A Good Guru/sequencer Combo To Use?

I Need Everybody Advice On This Ive Seen The Demos On The Website But I Need You Guys Advice

i've been using guru for a few weeks now and it's pretty impressive. i've never used an mpc, but it's the easiest and quickest vst i've seen for coming up with drum sequences on the fly. i use as it as a vst plug-in within logic, don't know as much about the standalone. as for your questions:

1) yup, you can. you'd have to edit the samples in another program (cool edit pro or something similar) but guru has a browser that sorts by hits, loops, or patterns. a nice feature is you can throw in a quick loop on the sequencer, browse to the folder with your drum hits in it, and drag the hits over to the pads -- just hover over the pads and the sample will automatically be played in the sequence, which is a really nice feature for auditioning which hits you want to use.

2) dunno -- never used an mpc. it's definitely quicker and easier than battery.

3) dunno, i don't use fl studio. seems like it would be a good match together though. i would say if you want to add anything beyond drums, you would need a host sequencer like cubase, logic, etc.

4) i personally use logic 5.5 on the pc, just cos that's that i know and i don't feel like learning another one. it's pretty nice, and the midi editing on it is amazing, and built-in effects are good. it lacks rewire 2 support, which i don't care about cos i don't use reason. apparently the folks that use to make logic for the pc sold the pc version to magix, and apparently magix music maker studio is roughly the same product with different names -- it's $80, might be worth checking out.

only problems i've seen with it is that the standalone seems buggy (crashes occasionally) and every once in a while something gets screwed up and it just stops playing sound within logic. when that happens, you can just save your sequence and samples as a guru bundle, close it and reopen and reload the saved bundle and everything works fine. but it has tons of really nice features, like easily being able to shift the hits (make the snares a little late, for example) and easily fucking around with the hits themselves (adding filters, throwing on some delay on individual samples, etc).

I Think Im Going To Try It Out, I Just Like To Arrange All Of My Vocal & Instrument Samples All In One Machine Then Get It Into Pro Tools And Add Extra Synth Sounds Or Whatever Else.guru Seems Like It Will Allow Me To Arrange My Sounds In A Quick And Easy Workflow.

man, guru + cubase or fl or whatever is the shit!! it's nearly equal to the mpc.. guru is the hottest shit!!!!! i'm still amazed what simple and POWERFUL it is..

How is it on timestretching, pitch, tempo, and things like that?? It's real good with dealing with sampling??
