Help recording vocals?

Alright I am having some problems with my recording setups. Or more like questions anyways, but here goes. I'm not really sure how I should have my outs on the cpu soundcard connected to the mixer. Because right now I have it connected so that the mic goes into the mixer, which goes into my soundcard, and back out to the mixer and then heard out of the moniters. But then when I go to record vocals in cool edit it records the beat over my vocals all on one track, so I have to pan the beat and whoever's in the booth can only hear music on one side. So is there a way I can have this setup to only record vocals? I'm very confused here. Anyways any help is appreciated as always.

ur doiung something fundamentally wrong.... i think i know... what u need is one set of out going from your soundcard to yours motirs and another going from your mixer to your monitors... the only reason for needing to go back out to the mixer would be for otb mixing... most monitors have 2 sets of inputs so what u need to do is mute the outputs going to the mixer and just record with the outputs from the soundcard... or get some kind of monitor/ab device that will allow u switch which outputs you are hearing... or else your computer is just goin to record itself lol.. i dont know if i explained it in a good way but thats what it is
