Not an argument on my end, I just disagree with him getting a pass to being an @$$hole just because he's Cube. Thats my whole deal, otherwise he's cool with me. That goes for any man, not just Cube. Really its all good, Im a believer in agreeing to disagree, makes ish alot easier.

Im checking the articles out now though...
___________________________________________________________________________________________

yeah at the bottom he says "Oh yeah, I can help anyone with advice on anything, but don’t ask for money. " So that settles that, eventhough he talked alot of ish early in the blogs. He also came off as being a lil cocky too but anyway...:)~

Yeah I was checking out "The MC and why they do it" on FUSE last night and in one section, they were saying that MC's had to play that role of being hard when in fact they lived normal lives (Too Short preaches it...), they were percieved as being bad guys and tough guys (sounds alot like the internet) because by then the mainstream was dictating their content (Guru was actually speaking on this...). Not to say that there aren't some legitimate thugs out there (remember the Ice Cube - Cypress Hill beef? Ish was about to get REAL and both camps realized it...) but they came after the normal cats started to rebel against that image.

If you go back to the begining, the first generation of rappers were "boasters", then it turned to "the drug dealer", then in order to gain credibility you had to be a true "killer", nowadays you have to be all that plus throw in "pimp" and you're on your way in the door. As with everthing else in life, you have the exceptions to the rule in the game but the typical role had evolved.

I agree with DJExcellence in that since Cubes "soft" movies, he is being perceived as soft and he feels like he's gotta go back to what made him "Ice Cube", anybody in that situation would. What I think most people don't realize is that life has its own way of changing you. Even Cube (the legend) couldn't tell me that since he's had children his role hasn't changed. 2Pac, Biggie, Jammaster Jay and a host of others have proved that anybody can be touched, and I know Cube won't go down that road no matter how hard he wants to be percieved. The game is a balancing act and perception all at once.

Older artist or legends need to either RETIRE...or get da fuck outta the way. They should produce some of these new artists instead of bitching and moaning so much.....

Sounds more to me like these guys are looking in them mirror seeing the grey hair sprout and then they get on this "I'm the best ever and I should live for ever shit".

Somebody either moved or got moved out the way to let them in so they should return the favor.

The problem with the West (and I'm originally from Cali) in my opinion is that they don't have a sound or identy anymore. The new cats are trying to sound like other parts of the country that are hot right now. I mean, I'm a dj. I have west coast sets, east coast sets, midwest sets etc etc. But there is no new Westcoast set I can go to. When I go westcoast it's always the 90's ish. All the other sets I mentioned can be updated but the westcoast set because if I throw on a new westcoast artist there's is no distintion in the sound. Dre needs to stop hoggin' them beats and push them joints to these new artists.....

These old heads need to get behind the scenes and produce some of these new acts. It's like they made it and forgot about the hood so to speak. I guess you have to face the fact that you're older when you take a back seat to the game. Instead of being salty they should take honor in there wisdom and teach the youth!!!

U can't take a couple words out of a whole statement and assume that's what I meant....come on now!

Talking all tough about some dudes that can surely fuck up his cozy lil surban family life is not smart. These young catz be going at each other FORREAL. I would hate to see or hear of Cube getting FUCKED UP over some stupid shit. He's respected as a westcoast emcee...I don't think he has much hood cred these days! Words are POWERFUL....a dude like Mack 10 who can really reach out and touch somebody has not even gone this route....nor has some real gangstaz that went back to the street after there careers took a nose dive.

He's asking for trouble that he doesn't need nor want if you ask me. He's tried to put out a "come back" record for the last decade and hasn't been successufl in doing so. He even stup'd to the level of working with Lil Jon...(WOW). I think he's feeding into a ploy to sell his next album. He already said that he'll mention names then....sounds like some ole gimmic shit to sell records to me.

Cube shouldn't need that kind of pub nor money after being successul in music and film. It just doesn't make sense why he would expose himself like this.

When I said for him to sftu and move out the way I meant by closing his mouth and just doing what he does. There's no need to spit venom at the new cats. If they aren't going to make it in the biz then so be it. He doesn't need to talk all reckless about them. It serves no purpose in my opinion. If you're the man "you're the man", you don't have to tell anyone "you're the man"!

Mark my words...if he takes this any further than he already has somethings going to jump off. I'd hate for a west coast O.G and pioneer to lose his life for publicity sake. Ain't like it's never happen b4.....dudes will merk an icon just to get a rep these days....I think he's lost a lot of respect from the youth saying the things that he has. Sometimes all a man has is his respect....he's giving that away at this point.

Damn.

Thats why so many emcees today are weak. If everybody was into building together and although hip-hop is powerful we could possibly have a powerful mainstream. Cube does sound mad bitter though.....

Im not against building with others at all in the hiphop community - I think thats essential for keeping hiphop alive and building networks, but I highly disagree that thats the reason emcees are so weak today. If your spit game is sorry, that aint no one elses fault but your own ya know what im saying??....Beatmaking, Producing, Writing Lyrics, Rhyming are all elements of the game that you have to diligently work at in order to become skilled and successful. Its like anything else in life. You gotta work hard to achieve your goals. Just because Cube came outa pocket a little and spoke his mind about the state of the industry in the West doesnt change my mind about him as a person. And the fact that he got into film and made a bunch of wack movies is moot to me. So in reality how is this even going to hurt other artists on the come up right now?...lol. Its not actually, unless of course your only ticket into the game in the first place was by being endorsed by Cube.

Now if he begins to call some artists out at a later date thats on some other shit and certainly not a positive move on his part. Its probably even a step back in regards to where hiphop has progressed now since that sort of parallels beef rap quite a bit in a way.

I didn't say that was the entire problem with emcees being weak. And the statement you made holds a powerful truth.
I believe that it's a important piece to the puzzle and foundation of a artist that if you are inspired by a vet in the game and your from the same parts.... then for hip-hop building why not reach out? It doesn't matter how many times you've helped people and helping someone doesn't nessacarily mean holding niggas hands through the game.

The west could never be the same but may be this will fuel them do better who knows? It's up to the person really lol

I agree with LDB, alot of us are getting old, and salty too about what hip hop has become, as for cube, he lost his "street cred" with are we there yet, he became an actor and left hip hop behind. Or was he always an actor?
Playing a role. Im not 100% sure, but it certainly is a possibility.
And another thing I agree with LDB about is that the kids these days are actually going at it For Real.
They took all the metaphoric stories and stories with a moral at the end, and just took it at face value, they took it as something to aspire to, instead of escape from, instead of having to hustle to survive, kids want to hustle when there are other options, you have well off middleclass white kids trying to keep it gangsta.

I also think is the job of us older people to complain about the shit state of affairs in hip hop, if we didnt try and guide the youth then we would be failing in our duty to pass of wisdom. Failing to pass on wisdom is probably our greatest failure, leading to kids not being able to tell right from wrong, or real from entertainment.

Like I said earlier in the thread, reaching out is like a hip hop ethic, its giving cats a shot to make their mark. Even Cube says, these cats aren't on his level...well him reaching legendary status is what seperates him form "everybody elses level". Cube didn't reach that level all by himself, he put in the work but the people that quote "aren't on his level" are the people that helped him obtain that level. That nigga is forgetting where he came from.

Secondly, like I said earlier in the thread...lol, these cats that are coming up would not be in contact with Cube if they didn't have some potential, record labels can't afford nor will they sign a bunch of nobodies. Everybody with the right potential deserves a chance, nobody in this forum came out the womb running, you got to crawl first. Cube is saying NO, you got to be on my level before I'll even fugg with you. Michael Jordan didn't come out of college a superstar, he obtained that title after he was in the pros. The Chicago Bulls gave him a shot and it paid off.

Now comes the part where we say, he's a grown man, he's Cube, he's a legend, he's not obligated to do ish for these newcomers which is VERY true BUT that spoils the game, that hurts the ethics of the game, being a grown man actually supports the reason why he SHOULD reach out. Thats what a grown man would do, an imature child would be more likely to turn their back on those looking for direction. People make mistakes, all people...Cubes mistake is turning away from the people that reach to him (in fact, he should be honored), our mistake (at this point, but still to be determined...) is putting Cube in legendary status.

^well put..

It seems as if half-assed artists are coming at him on some "give me a shot" shit....

I'm sure if the artist was truly dope (in his opinion), he would put him on....Dre did it with Em, & The Game....And both of them have been successful (Em way more so than Game). I think that's the problem...The mainstream hasn't produced a truly talented artist in a while...And a lot of this dumb shit you hear on the radio is what's hot....but Cube is from the days when artists went IN on bars.....so when Cube hears something that is sub-par in his opinion, he's gonna let em know...

We don't know the whole story on what's going on, all we see/read is Cube talking shit. We don't know what's the other side and what truly provoked him into his outburst....

Eazy E put Cube on because he needed someone to write for him...not because Eazy was that dude...LOL

not because Eazy was that dude...LOL

Ez was "that dude" Dre, Cube, Ren, Yella, all of them owe EZ big time. Ez was really in them streets with money. Dre was wearing body suits and make up b4 Ez. Bone Thugz would still be in the slumz if it weren't for that cat. Many many many owe Ez for putting them on when no one else would. He gave NWA the real street cred. Ren was the hardest lyricist from the crew by the way...he just could never take off as a solo artist.
