I'm thinking of getting a mpc 2000xl or 4000: Questions

ok, i've been saving up my money for a while and i'm thinking of getting an mpc. I've read around but i steel hav'nt really found any answers that i'm looking for. I'm trying to decide should i get the the 2000xl mcd or 4000 plus. I've heard that the 2000xl is pretty simple to learn and a stand alone machine, and i've heard that the 4000 is great but can be really complex, now i dont have a problem learning but i dont want something too overwelming. part of me wants the 2000xl cause it seams simple and it's cheaper, but i dont want to get it and then later on decide i want the 4000 and have to start saving all over again. For everybody that has one these machines can you please tell me your experiences with it, and kind of point me in the right direction.

Also is the sequencer on the 2000xl different form the 4000's sequencer.

I have neither but have fucked around with both and imho i would do the 2000xl...there identical sequencers just one has more bells and whistle..my mans complains about the sampleing rate on the 4000..says its to clean....cant get that grimey feel out of ur drums,but anyway ya 2000xl....u can get a used one for like 8 bills

Its just a matter of sampler capabilities(and other fancy stuff) that you may or may not need.

I have an 2000xl and im quite happy, since i have a fantom rack(which has a full fleged sampler) I have the same cabilities(effects, filters etc) as having a 4000. Now if i was a heavy sampler and i dident have the fantom rack. I would consider upgrading to the 4000.

When u get outside the sample editing capabilities, the machines are almost on a equal playing field.

the 4000 sequncer is based on all other MPC's just with more features. So if your an MPC user u can pretty much find your way around any MPC. It took me 3 mintues to use the 4000's sequncer coming from a 2xl

to make a long story short it just depends on what u want to do. U gotta think of what type of music your gonna make and what u want ur setup to be(long term) and take it from there. You dont want to get a 4000 if u already got a dope sampler or u edit samples using software etc.... Aviod gear overlap

ok thanks i got to play with the 2000 xl with the card reader but not the 4000. one of the big things that appeals to me with the 4000 is the hard drive and how you can put so much ram in it. that and being able to program your pads and trasfer samples by usb with asks software.

well I used to compose all my beats but recently i've been buying hella viynl so i'll be mixing composing and sampling together. THis will be my first peace of hardware really other than my old shitty yamaha keyboard and a 4 track recorder. All my other beats i made where made at my freinds lab using reason. Software is cool but i want to make my beats using my hands and on the fly.

well i've been reading for a while, and i got to play with the xl mcd but sam ash or guitar center never have the 4000. They tell me they can order it but i have to put a down payment on it. even if i'm not sure if i'ma buy it.

Btw is there a limit to size of memory on a card you use with the xl mcd

Hell no don't get the mpc 2000xl mcd or what ever its cost. That shit way over price. Hell for two hundred dollars more you can get a mv. I got a mv after having my good old mpc 200xl for 4 years. I was a ready for a switch and wanted to go against the grain and didn't look back. I just feel akai is robing people and they can't see it. They put out a mpc 1000 that if added a few more features would of been better than the 2000xl but they didn't, they reissue a mpc that been around since 1997, with everything the same, just not the paint job or storeage. They haven't drop the prices on a over price mpc that has done all the thinks akai promise. Akai pretty much is the winner cause they didn't make the 1000 100percent better than the 2kxl so if you felt its was lacking some and still want to buy a mpc(2000xl) a year ago cost only cost 1299 and jack the price up to 1799. Man if you want a mpc 2000xl that bad go on ebay and buy one for 700 to 1000 dollars and save the rest of ya money and get a good rack and midi contorller. The 4000 may have a learing curv but never let another mans I.q. The 4k is the way to go but its price is kind of high compare to what's out there and could work for you. To learn something be the factor in getting something. Don't rule out the mv also just to let ya know.

I really didnt get to involved in the discussion when he told me that...so i would have to get back to you....he has been producin alot longer than i so sometimes when he say shyt i just nod my head and agree...I can ask him for more details if u need....

You can change the bit rate on the MPC (12 bit or 16 bit) but not the sample rate.

FYI it depens on who u ask as far as money is concered. TO me my mpc2000xl was welll worth the money i spend on it. My music speaks for itself. KNowing what i know now i would glady pay more if needed to get another MPC. To me its worth it.

Hey classic, i've been reading some more and i got a question. the 32 megabytes of ram just determines how much sampling time you have right? and all of the sequences are saved to the card or zip disk. Also how much space does each song usually take up on your media cards.

depends on how many samples you have with ur sequnces. MIDI files dont take up much space at all.
