Master With Fl Studio 101

Sup y'all,

I've been experimenting with what seems a great way to master my tracks without downloading all a that fx and ish. Heres what you need:
Acid 4.0 or later, Fl Studio 4.5 or later

Start with the installation of fruity and make sure that you install the plugin version of fl studio and do make a note of where the files are going.
Next, of course build ya track in Fl Studio and save it and while making the name of ya track put the Bpm in the file name for example - "Iamgonnaloveyoubaby67" you'll see the importance later on.
Next, no need to have Fl Studio open so close and open an instance of Acid.

Now with Acid open press Q on ya keyboard, you should see the loop region bar turn blue, and the loop button switch on, this is how you activate a loop in Acid, remember this for we will need to activate one later on.

Now look down at the bottom where you see mixer, and a meter bar with Master written on it.

Now look to ya right you see soft synth, click on that, and then click Vsti Preferences, a new window opens. Now click on browse and direct the program to where you installed fruity plugin.

You should see them load in the box below, now check the whit boxes to the left and press ok.

Now click on Fruity Vsti and press ok. Now you should see Fl Studio Vsti Graphic with a big fruit at one end. Click on that and tadaa
fruity now opens running through the Acid mixer.

Now set acid to loop and press play, fruity will only work if acid is playing and open the track you wanna edit and set the bpm back to its original bpm and leave it playing. To return to acid just close Fl Studio.

Now to add fx, the meter bar that opens beside master - with fruityloops at the top, look just underneath you should see three icons, you want the little box to the left that turns green when you put your mouse, click on that and the world of Sonic Foundry plugins open to you,
just click the one you want. If you want several you will have to create a chain, to do this simply instead of clicking ok on the fx panel click add after selecting the plugin you want.

Now at your diposal are some of the worlds greatest plugins around, several eq's and tools guaranteed to bring life to ya tracks, I usually use the gtraphic eq <- works wonders.

To record your improved track, beside the loop button is the record button, press record and the the track should start playing again, so its best to leave a gap at the begining at the track to give you time to start recording, and press record . Your computer will have to be set to record from the wave out, and press record when finished press stop. The improved track now reloads back into Acid, now here you might need to make a few adjustments by removing any excess gaps, just click on the eraser tool up top, 3rd from the right of the pencil, and well, erase the gap - these are usually the blank white space,
Now to export your new and improved track, first turn acid off loop and stretch the loop bad to the end of the track,

Look up top hit tools then render to new track select mp3 and then put it to 320 kbps studio quality. Now make up a cool name and save ya master track. Also it is wise to save an Acid project file so you can come back later to do some more tweaking.

I also suggest several methods of listening:
A head phone
A speaker
A computer speaker
anything that you can think of to test your finished at different situatiosn is always good:

Any questions just ask away:

Problem With That Scenario

Fruityloops doesn't behave well as a plugin. The program is basic as far as programs go but it'a a lil too big to be using as a plugin although imageline says you can do it. Big flaw is that you get offsets in sound using it this way. Same with alot of bigger plugins. They just dont run well. I would just recommend bringing your file straight into Acid, anything else and your sacrificing sound integrity.

All of my Sonic Foundry plugins already open up in the FL mixer. Don't forget just like you and add vst instruments, you can add plugins. Check your mixer out, it's really a piece of work. Don't sleep on it.

I don't know @hazwaioh. Although acid would be good for vocals because of it's realtime fx's, I don't see why you would need to enhance a track from FLstudio in acid.

Hey, sorry guys for not checking in on the progress of this article. To tell you the truth this method is only a "try and see" method, where you just have to try and see the clarity the oomph that you get when running it through acid's mixer, its beautiful man. But note to do this it takes a lot of cpu power, and to decrease the offset after opening the plugin, head to audio settings and decrease it......

Wouldn't mastering be done to the final rendered file after all is siad and done and best done in a sound editor or a dedicated stand alone mastering tool like t-racks or ozone? Not that i think what you said is a bad idea, it's just that mastering a science. One that only a small minority of people ever truly master. I'm no expert on mastering, but I do know that mastering is typically best done after you have already rendered final mix and worked out all other kinks first. The process you described is more like a pre-mastering process.

That being said, Acid has excellent effects. many either forgot or unaware that the effects that come standard with Acid Pro were once sold seperately as expensive plugins called XFX1, 2 and 3 and used in many studios around the world. they did not even become standard in soundforge until version 5. Although i have never thought about doing this before, taking a completed mix from FL that has been rendered into a wav file and dropping it into acid for mastering might not be such a bad idea if you have no other wav editor.

Actually opening up fruity inside Acid, has double advantages over processing the completed file, in that you can recover lost frequencies by simply adjusting the volumes inside fruity. I know for a fact fruity;s encoder is wack and doesn't process the file properly, so say for example I got a track in .wav and I listen to it and I cant hear\feel the roundness in the kick, there are no ways to recover that sound if its not there already unless you got some magic powder. Now same example I open it in Acid and i'll be able to process it live through what I believe is a better renderer of audio, the sounds you get from acid are more real and heavier. And the fact you critiqued this process is great, but this process I suggest mainly so that Illmuzik's producers would have an excellent way to get their beats sale worthy.
