Mic Connection Issues

I have my mic plugged into a M-Audio preamp/interface which is then plugged into my computer. I also have a simple dj mixer plugged into that same interface. When I record vocals everything works fine, except I cannot hear myself in the headphones as I record. I can hear the beat, but not myself. Where have I gone wrong? Once I finish recording and play it back I can hear everything fine...the only issue is during the recording.

I have the M audio mobile pre.

Its called "Direct Monitor" on M audio shit, to hear the input in real time. Just open up ur interface control panel, make sure Direct Monitor is not muted and the volume is up. Also make sure both channels are "linked"

and open up ur windows volume manager and make sure nothing is muted on that either
