MIDI Recording Trouble

Whenever I try to record via MIDI controller or keyboard, when I finish there is only a tiny note at the beginning of a the sequence, and a tiny note at the end of it. Whats going on?

Lets say you set your beats per bar to 4, then hit record then play, the metronome will tap 4 times then you start recording, maybe thats why idk. If your just start playing when you hit play then it wont record anything until it taps 4 times
