Mixing Down On The Ensoniq EPS 16+

aight, say i make an entire beat. i've saved all the sequences, instruments, and song files to a floppy. what steps would i take to turn it into a .WAV or mp3 file? can i convert the song files on that floppy to .WAV using some software?
i have no idea how to take a track from the EPS to soundclick

help needed. i'm gonna get my EPS 16+ by next week and i'm tryin to learn everything i can about it beforehand.

If you have a blank floppy disk, you need to format it in the EPS16+ before you can save anything on it. But once its been formatted for the EPS16+, the computer wont recognize it. The computer looks at it and says "its an unformatted disk, would you like to format it?" If you format it on the computer, it will delete all the EPS16+ info you saved on it.

Its a hard concept to understand but once you get the basics down, youll get used to it.



The best way (that i know of) to mix down your beats on your EPS16+ is to get the Ensoniq OEX-6(SR). It is a 6-Channel Output Expander that lets you assign all 8 tracks to 8 different places (the 6 outputs on the OEX, and the left and right main output ports). So once you have all them set up, you get an 8-Channel Mixer and hook the different outputs to the 8-Channel mixer. Then hook the main output of the mixer to your computer or multitrack recorder.

so i jus need a mixer, will a dj mixer work?

They usually dont make 8-Channel DJ mixers, and even if they did, you wouldnt probly have pan and fx control and you need an EQ. If you get a real mixer, youll have all of those.

And youll need an OEX-6 for putting 8 different channels out of the EPS16+.

Ensoniq isnt around anymore, they merged with E-mu, and they dont make the OEX-6 any more. Youll hafto find it used on ebay sometime.

i dont necessarily need to track each instrument separately, but with a DJ mixer can i jus record the song as a whole into the comp?

Oh, Hell Yea.
I just usually always have a track on all the different channels so you can get it soundin right. I didnt know that thats what you meant, sorry bout that.

If you just want a one channel mix, like the whole beat to be recorded on one track, then you dont even need a DJ Mixer. All you do is:
Say you have (probly) an 1/8" input on your computer, then get a Dual 1/4" -to- 1/8" audio cord. Then you just need to press record on your computer and play on your EPS16+.
