i been thinking...i am useless when it comes to reading and writing music..i play completely by ear...i dont even know the names of the notes.....will this hinder or hurt me in the industry or not? does it even matter?..i know that alot of producers (dre,timbo) cant play any instruments...just wondering

I doubt that it will hurt you ...... but its always good to know your scales.

The secret to every major scale is - W, W, H, W, W, W, H

You can start on any Key .... Example - Start on note C, then move a whole step up the keyboard. (A whole step is when you move two notes up the keyboard and a half step is when you move one note up) then repeat the steps.

You can start on any note and this applys for every major scale. So if your making a beat these should be the only notes being played in that key.

i always take lesson for week or two then... quit.... always cuz of my schedule.. i think... hmmm...

but yeah youshould make it a point 2 learn how 2 read and write notes....

and play one instrument... gtr/bass/drums//keyz... whateva...
that's just my opinion...

tho i play be ear for now...

Thats a chord ...(I Think) not a scale ...I'm not familiar with chords and I just go by the sound I'm looking for.

Cm7aug5 is a chord not a scale however when dealing with the key of C being that its Cminor7 you can still use the notes from the C scale where they fit or sound well or you can use the notes that make up the Cm7aug5

you can get by.... but playing by ear is quite a slow process for me... i need to take some lessons....// cuz i feel i have the potential to make some nice melodramatic melodies...

anyone can suggest me some books? I don't know anything about notes, but this year I got so much time to read books and learn what I want so I gonn do what I have to do, to get some knowledge.
